I also have that Eucalyptus app on my iPod, so it's pretty much open season for public domain books. I used it to read some lighter works like Thomas Paine's Common Sense and The Philosopher's Joke which are like 100 and 50 pages, respectively. I even began on Moby Dick, but that fell to the same thing that kept me from finishing Catch-22 and House of Leaves. Awesome books, but they just couldn't hold my attention long enough to finish them. Talking about them makes me want to read them more though, so hey, that's a good thing.

I say every angle is a valid way to review an album. There are a lot of not-so-sophisticated listeners out there and it's not a bad thing at all to have reviews coming from where they're coming from. I'm not exactly Mr. Music Major myself, but I think I got a pretty good grip on what separates the bad from good (or at least what I like from what I don't like). Surely there are people out there that see it all in a similar light who would benefit from hearing my opinion. My only concern is...I don't have very discerning taste. I'm afraid I'd end up giving only good/positive reviews. Then again, it's not necessarily a bad thing being able to see the good in all things. That's why I'm not so hot on 'rating' music. I'd rather just say what it is and let the reader take from that what they will. Kind of like a blurb on the back cover of a book.

If I get the chance, I'll check out some of Vonnegut's stuff, but no promises at the moment. I've actually been in more of a writing mood than a reading one. I typed up a long-ass message to my friend on Facebook while under the influence of illicit substances, and it was fun even though it ended up reading like it was written by a spastic 3rd grader on speed. I just wrote a chapter of a story I currently have no intention of finishing which is much more technically sound, and I enjoyed that one a bit more even though (or perhaps because) it's not nearly as personal. I also started a novel a few years back for NaNoWriMo, but that didn't get very far. I just can't help but feel pretentious. I need to get over that mental block before I can write anything of any sort of worth. A friend of mine suggested writing album reviews. I wrote reviews of RHCP's discography and posted them to a journal on last.fm, and I don't think they seem pretentious at all, so maybe he's on to something.

Sorry to double post, I've been in a typative mood tonight. I have a pretty small collection of books, and unfortunately, I can only say I've completed two of them fully. That would be John Dies at the End, which I've actually read twice (once online before it was printed on paper). I love that book, but it's not exactly high literature like Vonnegut and Heller. The second one was Anthony Kiedis of RHCP fame's biography. I have a few gems here and there. Some Lovecraft, House of Leaves, Battle Royale, even Freud's Interpretation of Dreams (I'm in to psychology and that jazz). Once again, the most I've read out of any of those is a chapter of House of Leaves, what little of which I read, I rather enjoyed. I used to enjoy reading, you know. I read most of the Harry Potter books when they were first coming out, and I scored a 12.9 (maximum) reading level on a test in 6th grade (for whatever that's worth...probably not a lot), but the point is, I used to be good at it. I blame video games.

I'm with ya there. Jet Age is for sure my favorite from the whole group. The first hip-hop album I ever got in to was Deltron 3030, which also uses spacey aesthetics and themes. Not nearly as chill as 5th Echelon, though. It's actually rather upbeat, and almost too busy at times, but it's a damn good album. It's a concept album about an intergalactic rap battle. If you haven't listened to that, I recommend it strongly. One of my favorites of all time, and pretty much the launching pad I used to get in to other rap music. I even gave it to my friend who doesn't care much at all for most rap/hip-hop, and he loved it. Sure, I liked Eminem before that in the early '00s (everyone did), but I listened to him as a pop artist, and that was before I started to take music a bit more seriously. Between those two periods, I was one of those dudes who hated rap and was all about classic and alternative rock. Pretty glad I grew out of that narrow mindset.

Oh hell yeah, man. I've always valued diversity, and I see you and I see eye-to-eye. Love your quotes, too. I always loved Catch-22, even though I, thanks to my increasingly short attention span, have never made it past 200 pages or so. Saw the movies of the other two, but never read the books. Also good stuff. I see a lot of OFWGKTA in your charts; you check out Frank Ocean's album/EP thing? I've never been huge on RnB myself, but the dude has talent. Definitely recommend checking it out.

most of those plays were within the first 7 days of me first playing them too haha. I really do like them - they're considered folk punk, and it's definitely music to listen to with a pinch of salt as the lyrics are often dark but humorous. :)

finished it an hour and a half ago, but thanks for the support :) I think it went well - I made my points, reinforced with examples and elaborations, so hopefully that'll give me a good grade :P

Ah I will do just that after my exam tomorrow - we have a 50 CD classical music collection so yeah, I'll work my way through that. Thanks :)

ah cool stuff. Ever listened to Yes before? They're one of the influential progressive rock bands of the 70s and sometimes have a fairly funky sound (Roundabout and America are good examples of that). I've been meaning to get into classical music and it sort of helps that we have a huge collection box set of classical composers, so I should try ripping that on to my computer sometime :]

Don't even worry about that, dude - I think F/B is over-rated...I've met people on Last.FM who deleted their F/B accounts cos they were so bored with it, and much prefer it here, because Last concentrates on more important things than "stalking people" heheh - btw my new pic is me at 17 on my girlfriend's shoulders (she was sweet 16 at the time!!).
