Track53, has stated on his Myspace that there is a new EP destined for birth in the near future, and Fieldtriqp, despite putting his ambient release on hold for now, has not only mentioned future releases, but has posted some absolutely stunning music on his Myspace player.

Now I may be missing something, but I was under the impression that something major was going to be either announced or revealed by Hills West on the 22nd of April. Alas, to date, there is nothing new…unless something has been posted whilst I write this, which is possible I suppose.…

Yeah, I blame Guitar Hero III…and my other half for playing it….yeah….it's their stinking fault.

What, you most probably don't care at all, am I talking about?

Well, in the olden days (circa 1988-1993) I was a metal head of the highest order. I loved my Death Metal (even wrecked my throat growling in a local Death band for a year or so), and my heavy but more mainstream metal too, and amongst the many bands I injured my neck (and general body) moshing to were Metallica.

They rocked, and were a cornerstone of my non-death metal play list.…

Portishead have always occupied a special place in my heart, being the soundtrack to an especially lovely time in my life, back when I was young, dumb(er) and generally a bit more innocent. So, when I got a heads up from one of my mates about a new single, I was pretty damn happy…

…But…oh dear…

I'm really hoping that "Machine Gun" isn't indicative of what the rest of their new stuff is like, because I certainly won't be bothering if it is.

Have I ever mentioned here how much I hate "Most Haunted"? I live in Derby, and work fairly close to the old hanging grounds, and I'll be honest, every time I see a group of ghost hunters there, I feel like using certain dark manuscripts to summon forth one of the faceless spirits of Nar'Aluaz, and setting it free to subtly drive them all to madness and ruin. I hate it that much.

Anyway, Nine Inch Nails have produced a collection of instrumental tracks for either download (at a very reasonable price), or purchasing for real. It's called Ghosts I-IV…

So, quick round up of recent listenings.

Right, I can't get on with Quaristice. I've tried, and I've tried…and then I thought “Why the hell should I be trying to enjoy something? I should either just enjoy it or not! Music shouldn't be something I have to work at enjoying!!!”.

I know that Autechre have produced some simply awesome electronic music over the years, and I am a huge fan of a lot of their stuff (especially the likes of Amber and Chiastic Slide), but their recent stuff – in my opinion note – is just…noise. It sounds…

And the second my attention is away, I discover that "One on Twoism Volume 2" is out!

As I write this, I am listening to the fractured, chaotic electro-ramblings of Autechre's latest album "Quaristice".

So far, so good, though it's a pretty challenging listen - harsh shattered beats and random fractal melodies, all smashing and blending into each other like the seed of some dark machine conception. It's less harsh than "Confield", but still, I suspect it will take a couple of listens until I am sure about my feelings for it.

On the opposite side of things is "Saturn Day Trajectory" by Retic, which is exactly the kind…

Holy crap!

I was dozing on the sofa, when a bloody earth tremor shook the entire house! Apparently, it was 4.7 on ye Richter Scale (not bad for Britain), and it scared the poop out of me…

…Not literally, that would have somewhat marred my wild joy at the madness…

So there you go…
