I was talking to someone last night about music, specifically alt country. She said I aught to check out Whiskeytown and Uncle Tupelo. I like Son Volt and Wilco, which are offshoots of Uncle Tupelo, and so had been meaning to check them out for a while. Also, I had heard and liked some Ryan Adams, who was in Whiskeytown, but had not heard any of their stuff. anyway, I took her advice, and it's pretty good stuff. Have to listen to it more to see if I wanna go out and buy some of their CDs.

I also downloaded an Old 97's album, which is another band I have been meaning to listen to. I had also wanted to see them play at Artscape last year in Baltimore, but due to long food lines and flying gnomes on acid, I missed their show. Anyway, I really like what I have heard, probably more than Uncle Tupelo and Whiskeytown.

haven't listened to it yet, but Im pretty excited to. the rest of the album (36 track, almost 2 hours) can be downloaded for like 5 bucks or bought on CD for 10. I'm liking the new business model that NIN and Radiohead are doing with free downloads and then you pay different amounts based on what you are willing to pay. maybe it wouldn't work for bands that aren't hugely popular already, as these bands are, but it is good in the way it makes the industry, and we as consumers think about how technology and music can work together for everyone's benefit.
