Wildwood Flowers

Album of the week is definitely "Flowers In The Wildwood - Women in Early Country Music". The album is four years old, but I only got it yesterday - I'm already on my second spin, though.
Only a few standards - a couple of Carter Family songs and Patsy Montana's (great) classic "My Poncho Pony". The rest are new to me.
The loveliest, lol-funniest track on the album is "I left Her there" by the Dezurik Sisters. Gives the concept of yodeling a completely new (or old) meaning :-)
A couple of the songs, like "Girls of the Golden West - Roundup Time in Texas" also sound surprisingly modern - you'd rather think it was from the 50's than the 30's.
On the whole, a must for the enthusiast.

One of my favorite versions of Wildwood Flower was done by Roseanne Cash on a Nitty Gritty Dirt Band audio copy from a DVD. She calls it one of the most important songs in musical history. I agree.
