  • Noah and the Whale - Acoustic Session at WNEW.com

    Nov 19 2008, 16:55

One of the great things about writing for WNEW.com is getting to bring bands in to our studio for interviews and acoustic sessions. One of the best we've had so far was with Noah and the Whale. They had just landed in the US and were about to head out on their first tour of America.
Before hitting the road the guys stopped by our studio and played three songs for us: 2 Atoms In A Molecule, Give A Little Love, and If I Die Tonight. They also sat down for a group interview, and revealed some behind-the-scenes stories about this young band.
Check out the session at WNEW.com here.

  • Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad :: Mountain Jam 2008

    Giu 5 2008, 18:12

I'd heard of these guys but never seen them before last weekend. And when I did see them it wasn't during their set on the main stage (missed that one) but during a random stumble through the campground at Mountain Jam 2008.
It was late at night, and I was passing by the Shady Solar Stage (basically a tent with bands playing - all powered by solar energy captured during the day). I heard some killer reggae pumping out of this tent, and saw all kinds of people jamming to this band. Turns out it was Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. And it turns out they totally rock.
The band played at least three sets in that tent over the course of the weekend, and they were a delight to listen to each time. I had the pleasure of meeting a few band members after one of the sets, and they were all really nice and seemed happy to be at Hunter Mountain.
Not much more to say about the music, other than to say that Missing You More is my new favorite song.
Here's a few pics of the band from the Shady Solar Stage:

  • Jason Mraz live concert webcast - Wed 5/21 at 3pm ET!

    Mag 16 2008, 16:22

Hey I've got another live webcast coming up - this time it's Jason Mraz live from L.A. It all kicks off on May 21 at 3 pm ET in the AT&T blue room (www.attblueroom.com).

Jason's live show will begin at 3 pm ET and he'll be performing tracks off his new album We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, as well as all of his hits. We're taping this at a recording studio in L.A., and he's performing to a small group of really lucky fans - people that entered and won a contest in the AT&T blue room. You won't want to miss this exclusive concert!

The last time we had Mr.A-Z in the blue room it was live from Amsterdam - that was a hot one. He performed I'm Yours - check it out here.

AT&T blue room runs lots of contests like this - you still have a chance at winning at trip to see Madonna (and maybe Justin Timberlake?) if you get in there and enter today (5/16).

    Enjoy!
  • Toots & the Maytals @ BB King's in Times Square

    Apr 3 2008, 15:38

Wed 2 Apr – Toots and The Maytals

Toots Hibbert was his usual lively self for this gig - the first stop on their '08 summer tour - proving the years on the road aren't slowing this reggae legend down.

He did slow down some of the music, however, which made for a different Toots show than any I'd seen before. The show had the feeling of a warmup gig - an intimate show amongst friends before the band heads out on the road.

The Maytals play grooves that reach right inside you and force you to move your feet and shake your hips. The band was on point last night as always.

There were funny moments though, like some miscommunication during the encore that lead to Pressure Drop being played twice. But hey - I'd take a whole set of just Pressure Drop if that's what they wanted to throw down.

Toot's daughter sings beautifully in her backup role, as does her lovely partner, and both gave props to the enthusiastic crowd only inches away from them.

Keep an eye out for Toots on the road this summer - if you haven't seen this living legend in the flesh, now is your time.
