it was pretty good; i liked the first disc more than the second but that may have been due to the whole project's concept wearing out its welcome by the time i finished the whole thing. and thanks, i'll check that out!

hey shebs - oh nout much. off to see The Chills this week, which i'm pretty flippin excited about! i'm still tryna catch up on 2014 releases (still yet to listen to Ghettoville, for example!) - current recent favs are A Sunny Day in Glasgow's recent album, The Spies album on Siltbreeze, Tom James Scott's recent cassette and his Charcoal Owls album. Also, Ian Middleton's Well of Sorrows.

indeed, the production on that track is bizarre but that only adds to it

Hey there! Thanks and the same goes for you, I like what I see here. Unfortunately if were talking experimental in 2014 my suggestions are slim and you're likely already familiar with them. Toby Driver, Ichneumonidae Sunn O))) & Ulver - Terrestrials, Kayo Dot / Tartar Lamb 2 - Karkaw, upcoming Subterranean Masqueradevajd a few that I'll scour out once I'm off work today.

On second thought, skip the Young Fathers one. I listened to it again and think I'll remove it from my list. What releases have excited you the most this year (any genre)?

Sorry to quadruple post here. I've been pretty good. Just got back on a great mountain hike with my bitch! How've you been? I'll have to check out those 2 punk albums you recommended. I really do like White Lung. I'm quite picky about punk.. and I don't pretend to know what true punk is and what isn't. I think 90-95% of old punk sounds like shit... which I guess was on purpose because they were all "fuck the man/music industry"? Agent Orange is an exception though - love them. Mac Demarco is tagged as post-punk here on last.fm. Not sure if that really is "post-punk", but I enjoy it. Nice happy sounding tunes.

OH MY GOD I FORGOT The Roots!!!!! That album should be placed directly after Moodie Black and before Badbadnotgood.

Oh and I was kind of on the fence about Ratking. Ultimately, I don't think it will make the cut.

2014 (in descending order) according to what will make my top list anway: Moodie Black, BADBADNOTGOOD, Teebs, Young Fathers, and ScHoolboy Q. Let me preface the Schoolboy Q rec by saying only try if you occasionally like dancable, vulgar, stupid hip hop that is super contagious. Ones that I am looking forward to that either haven't dropped yet or I haven't gotten my hands on yet: Del The Funkee Homosapien, Chance the Rapper, Souls of Mischief, Flying Lotus, and Death Grips. Death Grips released a free album which samples Bjork tracks but not sure how I feel about it; he is set to release a different LP I think though. If you're curious about the hip hop releases I tossed out this year I listed some at the bottom here.

thanks. nothing much really. here is something i recently stumbled on that left a favorable impression. it's noisy, fun, sometimes maddening sometimes peaceful. https://ssl.what.cd/torrents.php?id=109293

thanks, you too! your best of '13 is also quite impressive. and I think the year got off to a slow start, personally, but i'm slowly digging in a bit more. I still have to snatch a few from that female vocalist list, but for whatever it's worth, most of my favorites this year seem to be feature female vocals.

l'ile re-sonante is one of my favorites and pretty accessible imo. Geelriandre - Arthesis might be a good next step after that. Trilogie de la Mort is her magnum opus imo and Naldjorlak I II III is maybe my 2nd favorite now. All of her stuff is fantastic though.

i actually haven't heard enlightenment (or frankly much jazz in general). re: bitches brew i never really liked the general tone of the album nor am i huge on electric pianos or funk-y sounding things. i'll have to relisten to it though because it's been a reaaaally long time. i was always a big fan of ornette coleman's science fiction and i relistened to it twice today and still like it a lot.

yea, I listened to a good amount of Mingus for the first time in a while and it was a blast. however, it all kind of confirmed for me that the only albums I care about are Black Saint, Let My Children Hear Music, and maybe Mingus Ah Um and Pithecanthropus Erectus. There are some good songs on his other albums, and his solo piano album is better than I remember, but I like him best when he's more experimental. Black Saint is far and away his best though. but it's also better than almost all other jazz albums I've heard so heh

I'm a Phish fan. These are my favorite soundboard Phish shows:

8/13/96 - Deer Creek Music Center - Noblesville, IN
6/22/94 - Veterans Memorial Auditorium - Columbus, OH
5/08/93 - UNH Fieldhouse - Durham, NH
6/14/00 - Drum Logos - Fukuoka, Japan
7/10/99 - E Center - Camden, NJ

Please feel free to recommend some audience-recorded shows! I have a weakness for soundboard stuff, so it usually takes a recommendation for me to go listen to the audience archives.
