Yeah, we both met Sleazy after their live perfomance in Porto (where I live!). Roger talked about "future releases" with him on the airport on the way back and Sleazy said Desertshore would happen, as would the followup to Coil/Timemachines, which I hope Chris Carter helps in making happen someday, taking it as it supposedly had finished parts already. The list of cameos is a bit weird, which I suppose it's what you're refering to, even if in part, yet I doubt the vocals would really ruin it for me, even if Genesis doing it sounds perfect in my head.

and yeah, i've never been too sure about my haircut but i think i found something i really like now -- i just shave my sides down basically all the way and have the hair on top long enough where it can swoosh to the side (my hair's really thick). and yeah, haircuts are expensive man, good on you for just shaving it :3 though, good haircuts are a huge confidence booster.

oh man that song is really good. i think the real problem with 80s hip hop albums for me is that they're really hard to finish since there's not too much diversity within a single record. like, most people just have the same flow or whatever and the beats end up being all same-sounding so by the end of the album i'm tired and don't want to listen to it again. but yeah, will check out that album when i have time! i actually haven't seen wild style (it's on my never ending list of movies that i still need to see gah) but i've heard it's great and i'm sure it'll be interesting seeing it considering it gives insight into early hip-hop.

I still love Gangnam Style. It might speak volumes regarding the eventual presence of noteworthy idiotic levels but its humour resonates with me and the song is just fun to listen to. It sort of climaxed all the random pon chak I've been listening to past the last year in a hugely popular video/artist. It was a weird and perfect timing, in a way. Regarding the videos you posted 100 years ago: I really liked most of their clothes - said the teenage girl in him. I don't know, I have trouble getting past the vocal trills and its themes with these videos/groups. I liked bits of the Exo-M song though.

schoolly d is great. i've only heard one album (saturday night) but i liked it a lot for an 80s hip hop album. anything pre-1987 though is like reaaaaalllyyy hard for me to listen to. i think the only album I'd consider great from that time period is the wild style soundtrack. and dang boiii you got them guitar playin' chops. lookin qute with that long hair, why'd you chop it all off!? haha but yeah, pretty cool cover man :) you should play guitar for everyone in the lairz

hahaha, i can see the other two, i was just commenting on thundercat's supremacy. but if you want to get all technical, go ahead. i half remember noticing you were one away from 666 too. and TOM GRRRL is danny from jehova's fitness, you remember them? they played che a lot. i saw them the other weekend and during the last song he jumped into the crowd and ended up bashing me on the top of my head with the neck of his guitar so he gave me a CD. he's a nice guy, i tried for a while to get him to be the band for the house party in creeps n ghouls but he was moving at the time...

i typically don't like much 80s hip hop but MC Lyte is dope from the little I've heard from her, and yeah, I know what you mean about her voice/beats. And, well, if you want the more accessible eai stuff then i'd check out the hands of caravaggio and too beautiful to burn, as well as the new jason lescalleet album -- those are all really accessible and good. And Primary is a korean guy who makes instrumentals/"beats" and his new album just had a bunch of different pop singers/rappers on it. it wasn't that good as a whole but i absolutely love this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RwoWzaHpIE /// it's such a typical song but i can't stop dancing whenever it's on. it's one of those songs for me that just makes me feel like i'm awesome. definite confidence booster.

it's definitely something I've thought about a lot - for me, the reason subtlety is something I strongly prefer, in film and music, to me, is because it reflects more accurately the parts of reality that get me thinking. The kinds of messages that a bad film is unsubtle about and the kinds of melodies and 'hooks' you find in unsubtle music are like the surface of the world: people shouting, things on reality tv, political parties - it's a part of reality, but only the crudest, most obvious part. To me, one of the reasons I need art in my life is because it's the only way to capture certain subtle feelings -- the quiet, almost-not-there parts of life: the flicker of a crisp brown leaf on a cold fall day, the feeling of trying to remember something hazy from a long time ago, 'mono no aware.' Things that are ambiguous, that result in paradoxes if you try to put them into words. Great art, to me, is subtle, and asks more questions than it provides answers. Hope that makes some sense.

I don't think the Simpsons episode (the one with the old cat burglar dude?) is related to Mann's Thief, at least not in any obvious way. Are you sure you're looking at the right Thief? http://mubi.com/films/thief But yeah, the movie's incredible. Mann has this obsession with 'professionalism' that's really bizarre and fascinating. The ending fucking kills me.

Ya there is! I had a hard time finding a link to City of Syrup so I got a torrent which had all his discography. The chopped version was included too! Whoa, that's kind of an odd choice for zz top to cover, right? This is really nice. lol, George is the best! I find him to be the most relatable character. Seinfeld is such a great show but that goes without saying.

I feel you. The only 2012 hip hop I can really stomach is Kendrick Lamar. There is just something about 90's southern hip hop that is so good. I think you might like this. He was an associate of Screw.

I can understand being weirded out by Animal Collective for sure. And I didn't think I'd like the Taylor Swift album that much since it's not typically the type of pop I dig but man, it's ace. I can understand why you wouldn't want to get around to it though. And yeah, k-pop is seriously the top of the pops today. And I am horribly sentimental as well :3

Oh and on the video Ott was talking about the Bruno Mars song, I think he stated how all his friends went from a stage of being elitist about their music and then completely shifting gears and praising pop music. I'm pretty sure i'm in that latter stage right now despite not having ever really been elitist about my taste anyway. Like, I always liked pop music but I am definitely way more vocal about it now and am probably a bit less hesitant to listen to it.

And ha I don't think I've ever had that sort of "shocked by music" moment in a really long time. It was probably when I heard Dirty Projectors for the first time since they were the first Pitchfork band that wasn't super straightforward. I found out about Pitchfork in 2009 so Bitte Orca was like completely fascinating to me at that time, and I still love it today. Aside from that, I can't really think of anything that confused/shocked me in such a way. And in regards to Taylor Swift, I actually haven't listened to any of her other records in full but I'm currently listening to Speak Now at the moment and it's pretty good. From what I can tell, I think Red showed Taylor making significantly less country-tinged pop tunes. Red is seriously an A+ album though. I liked maybe half the songs at first but now I love all of them pretty much.

Sasha Grey was also on a recent Current 93 album so that's probably why there was a picture of her holding the CD. I think it makes sense that she knows these people since she's shared her musical tastes (she has a band that I've heard isn't /terrible/) and was in that one movie, The Girlfriend Experience (which I heard is terrible). So all the networking opportunities that must have come from all that and the fact that she was like the most famous porn star at one point (and might probably still be despite having retired) doesn't make all this too surprising I suppose. And yeah, Antony's vocals fit really well with the dreadful atmosphere in Janitor and was an obvious highlight. And yeah, they are a lot simpler so I kinda wasn't sure how to feel about it all because I had expectations for it to be a bit different. But it's not like I disliked it or anything, it/I just seemed a bit jaded methinks.

Yea, I'm sure I have some distant relatives that are in Korea but all my cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins' cousins, etc. are all in the you ess of aye. Hopefully you get to visit Korea/your family again! and you were in orchestra?! what'd you play! The X-TG albums were good but I have to listen to them again before I solidify any opinions. They didn't blow me away but were worthwhile listens (for now). I laughed at Sasha Grey's vocals on the album though. And yeah, I should probably listen to more TG... just too much music in the world gah!
