KT's shoes cannot be wrong: KT Tunstall @ Teatro Gran Rex; October 21st 2008; Buenos Aires, Argentina

When a singer gets on stage and the first thing she says is she forgot to change her shoes, you know you're in the presence of something else. Indeed, KT Tunstall wasn't wearing the shoes she had meant to wear for the show, so after the second song she asked a crew member to fetch them and changed boots on stage while her bass player translated in Spanish her explanation on the shoe exchange. However, this was most likely a concern only to her, for I don't believe any of us present at the Teatro Gran Rex last night would have paid any attention to her feet if she hadn't mentioned them.
Indeed, the small Scottish lass was a natural on stage; she pranced about, jumped around, joked, laughed and had a general amount of fun, pretty much as if she was playing for her friends at the back of her house. Tunstall was as comfortable on a stage in a faraway country as you can imagine her on a meeting with her lifetime friends. She was happy, carefree, and above all, she played music. However delirious or witty she might have been at talking to her audience, when the time came to play she got completely into it and let her skills speak for themselves, what I can only describe as a very convincing platform.
The show was very enjoyable for us, already fans of her work, but trying to put myself in the shoes of someone who was hearing her songs for the first time, I imagine possible reactions like "Wow, the funny girl's got a voice!" or "How many guitars does she have?!", or even more "What's that pedal thing she keeps using?"; basically: "Man, this girl knows her stuff!". And she surely knows it, for she spent over an hour and a half entertaining an almost full theatre with some great quality music and heartful performance, being an adorably nice girl, at the same time showing her rocker corazón.
Upon her last song before the encore break (Suddenly I See), she commented that this was going to be her last show for a while, for she'd soon go to the studio to work on a follow-up to her 2007's "Drastic Fantastic", and promised: "¡Créanme que volveré!" It's in each one to believe her or not, but I for one will make sure not to miss her next performance, whenever it is; whatever shoes she winds up wearing then, there's no chance they'll ever be the wrong ones.
