Did you know that Meshuggah are no longer metal, but in fact technical nu-metal/djent? I've probably said this before, but the mods there are clueless about anything that doesn't fit neatly into heavy/thrash/death/black/doom. So what'd you think about the new Gridlink? I enjoyed it overall, probably their best one in fact, but I never really loved this band like alotta people seem to.

Oh man, will be easily be #1 album of the year. I hope the guitars sound more massive on the album though, it needs a crushing force of approximately 15,000 psi to surpass their debut.

Yeah I definitely got that same impression of "perfect riff"-ness. I mean it's kind of silly to say, you know, that it almost sounds too good, but it does have that feeling of being overly calculated at times. You can't really blame Lemay though, I'm sure there was alot of pressure not to fuck this up. I'm sure you watched the show by now, yeah? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgxD_mvV2fs Live there's a tiny bit more breathing room. Top button undone, so to speak.

And Gorguts.. still digesting it. I expect it to grow more on me, but as of right now it may be my least favourite Gorguts album. That said, it's still a great album, and one of the best this year. Just kind of weird to hear them sound so.. modern. I remember reading somewhere that Marston and Hufnagel wrote one song each, so I tried to guess which ones. Absconder I thought was probably Hufnagel, and that was right. Marston was harder to pick out though.. I had guessed either Ember's Voice (sort of BtA-ish) or.. I was kind of stumped. Maybe Enemies of Compassion, but that chugging part in the middle and the solo didn't jive. Or maybe Ocean of Wisdom, but that seemed a bit too straightforward. I never would have guessed Forgotten Arrows, but there you go. I think this album also further cements what a huge influence Big Steeve on the band's.. overall weirdness. He was the band's bodhisattva, to go along with the Buddhist themes.

Yeah I saw that about Pete, all I can say is.. shrug. Morbid Angel could use some new blood, though I'm not sure if Tim Yeung has any. Speaking of McMaster, I think I like Geryon album alot more than the new Castevet, I'm sure you've heard it? The new Portal I'm enjoying, despite the "better" production it has some of their most twisted riffing yet. Also you were right about the new Ulcerate, it's a definitely more aggressive overall than DOA, though I think it could still use a tad more violence

After listening to it a bit, I liked to the new Castevet, but I don't feel like it was that amazing, or even better than the first record really. It has some cool parts (and I'm glad they resisted the urge to add blastbeats) but it seems to be missing some of the style they had.. and I don't really care for the last two songs, so it really ends up being a 4 song album for me.

Hard to Write With a Little Hand Lethargy, right? Never got to into it frankly, it was a bit too.. unstructured I guess. Like if Creatiion is Crucifixion went completely off the rails. One of these days I'll probably give it another shot.

Huh. Well I guess that's that then. Though I can't lie and say I wouldn't be a smidgen more interested in a Human Remains reunion. You familiar with them?

Back now. 1) Yeah, I heard about the Stargazer/Knelt Rote tour. Sucks I guess, but NYC can't have everything. 2) Drottnar I haven't heard in about six years, just assumed they had broken up. Listening to Stratum now.. I agree with your assessment, but I'm still not a big fan of them. 3) I had to laugh at Famine's line, "I know that you like grass, like all sheep do." He's kind of an idiot, but some of it is obviously tongue-in-cheek. I wonder how much.

Apparently I have Turbulent Resurgence and don't remember listening to it at all. Not sure if this is your speed, but you should check it out anyway. http://supermutant.bandcamp.com/

CHOOSE GRIND. That should be some sort of slogan. Clinging dude has a new project, not grind at all, I just think he's obsessed with heaviness and negativity. Seems pretty interesting, & he has a good eye for aesthetics. http://music.throatruinerrecords.com/album/scorn

And apparently Maruta are somewhat back together? Ed even played with them at that "reunion" show they did.

I kept seeing this video on the suggestions to the side whenever I'm on yt, so I finally clicked it.. I don't think this guy likes Colombian brutal-death-grindcore.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi3qC_zQ4Po

Just heard the intro, that was enough. Next year is gonna be so awesome.. DS, Wormed, Gridlink, Portal, Gorguts... assuming some of these people can get up off their asses and release their shit. Horror Illogium was shredding it up the other night by the way. Black hair, I believe with an Innsmouth shirt on. Dude has spider legs for fingers.

I saw. Too bad basically they would've been the only worthwhile band. And the same night as Suffocation too? Vinny either has bad luck or no idea how to promote a show.
