Though I've only had the Superman Returns soundtrack for a few days, John Ottman will be in my top artist chart whenever it refreshes. xD It's a wonderful piece of work that both stands on its own, and works amazingly in context of the movie (which I also found to be awesome). I can just sit listening to it and visualize the scenes of the movie.
It's a bit odd, because though the major theme is still John Williams', there are so many more elements to the score. Parts of it remind me strongly of Edward Scissorhands and others, Star Trek: First Contact. It's my first score by John Ottman, so I couldn't tell you what unique elements of the score are his. ^^;
Anyway, highly recommended (both the score and the movie).
I finally fixed my ID tags, so my Batman Begins tracks will finally show properly… though it means my top artists/tracks charts will be skewed since I'll no longer have any tracks played by "Hans Zimmer and James Newton H", which is where the former IDv1 tags cut off the artist name. :P It would be cool if I could combine those tracks with the correct ones… and so would be the ability to connect "Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard" with "Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard". I think a lot of artists and tracks are being misrepresented statistically because of these tag inconsistencies. :|
Artists of soundtracks to superhero movies (such as Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, John Ottman and Hans Zimmer) will be spiking on my charts for the next month due to my specialized playlist… while writing a 50,000 novel for July Novel Writing Month with a plot revolving around superheros, I think that sort of music is fitting. ;)
If anyone has any superhero recs, I'll be happy to hear them. :)
