Dear Alf! Sure, it's all 'authentic' in one way or another. As a child, I was sitting with my younger brother late at night in front of the radio. We listened on radio "Caroline" to the songs of the Animals, Beatles and Stones. Popular music formed the soundtrack of my life. I mean really important moments in my life are fixed and linked with songs or LP's. While I was young, I had little interested how this actually works. But today I think 'authenticity' as also a concept when something needs to be enforced, whose values have long prevailed. It's like the promise of a bio-product in an intact ecological world.

Hi Alf, thanks for the tale from the vinyl jungle! My first LP was only half mine - my brother and I got "The Beatles Greatest" as a gift. The first self-bought LP then was mine alone "Led Zeppelin II", the album with "Whole Lotta love"

Hi Alf! Yeah, there is really strange music around. One thing about the Baroque stuff you mentioned:! A friend, a mathematician plays JS Bach on his guitar. Sometimes sit down and listen how he plays, even if I don't understand the music of JS Bach. The first time I had problems to understand music was with "Ain't It Funky Now" by James Brown. I was 16 then. That was a piece without harmonies. I thought that was incredible. Although I had already listened to music that was not based on harmony, progressive rock with long improvisation points where there was no longer a chord scheme and no more cadences, but that was still recognizable as individual articulation. "Ain't It Funky Now " was just funky.

Hi Mister Alf! Thanks for your invitation to Windsor Arts Festival 1972. Sure, I like to be there with you, but my musical journey into the past would start a little earlier something like New York City in 1961 or so. Bob Dylan plays with Dave Van Ronk in the Gaslight Cafe. Cecil Taylor and Archie Shepp. Or a scene that can be seen on YouTube as movie: The Exploding Plastic Inevitable show with the Velvet Underground. Tony Conrad and John Cale left the Theatre of Eternal Music and experiment in the Ludlow Street. That would be the era, probably.

I think that we both come from the same generation! In the household where I grew up, there were no records. There were voices in the radio, and then came music. My first beautiful experience with music was with the Beatles. I was about six years old when I first heard a song I was able to reproduce inside my head, even if it was sung in a foreign language, it was: "I want to hold your your hand."

Edgar Broughton Band, The Groundhogs and Pink Fairies were then also landed in my head - All these records had been temporarily suspended in the thin air of a revolutionary principle. Thanks for reminding me !

Music without theory is boring! The ugliest face of pop music is for me, Bono & U2 performing 'Ordinary Love' at Oscars 2014!

I've noticed you listen to Huong Thanh. Sometime ago Huong Thanh performed on Nguyen Le's Tales from Viet-Nam. I consider it a classic album in jazz fusion/world music genre and therefore dedicated a comprehensive review of the album. You can read it by clicking below. There's a translation tool in the top right corner. http://www.laboratoriummuzycznychfuzji.com/2013/03/recenzje-klasyka-tales-from-viet-nam.html
