Top Ten Bands

Feb 25 2006, 2:55

Found this on another journal, thought I would give it a try.

Name your top 10 most played bands on

1 Pavement
2 Phish
3 Wilco
4 Medeski, Martin and Wood
5 Beck
6 Belle and Sebastian
7 Bob Dylan
8 Silver Jews
9 My Morning Jacket
10 Ween

Now answer the questions according to the numbers:

-- what was the first song you ever heard by 6?
Dear Catastrophe Waitress

-- what is your favourite album of 2?
That's a tough one. I think I'm going to with Rift.

-- what is your favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
Tough to say, but I think I'll go with this one from Que Onda Guero:
"abuelitas with
plastic bags walking to church with their
spanish candles"

It reminds me of when I lived in Jamaica Plain, MA near Hi-Lo foods that sold all sorts of Spanish candles and a great old church and lots of abuelitas too.

-- how many times have you seen 4 live?
Good question, maybe 8 times?

-- what is your favourite song by 7?
Man, my favorite song by Bob Dylan. It changes every day, but if I was under threat of torture I would probably say Desolation Row.

-- what is a good memory you have considering the music of 10?
Listening to Piss Up a Rope about 50 times on a visit with Jake and Beth when they lived in Portland, OR.

-- is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
She's A Jar

-- what is your favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
"If time were only part of the equation
and you could draw the boundaries of our cage
You wouldn't pile another stone upon me
and I'd be happy just to watch you age"
from Fast Enough for You

-- what is your favourite song by 9?
The Way That He Sings

-- how did you get in to 3?
Oddly enough, I randomly listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at a listening post at a record store and absolutely loved the first song (I Am Trying to Break Your Heart) and bought the album. All of the other albums soon followed.

-- what was the first song you heard by 1?
Shady Lane

-- what is your favourite song by 4?
Probably Where's Sly?

-- how many time have you seen 9 live?

-- what is a good memory you have concerning 2?
Spending 12/31/99 staying up all night at a concert outside at the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in Florida.

-- is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
I Remember Me. But more melancholy than sad.

-- what is your favourite album of 5?

-- what is your favourite lyric that 3 has sung?
"I dreamed about killing you again last night/and it felt all right to me/dying on the banks of Embarcadero skies/I sat and watched you bleed"

-- what is your favourite song of 1?
Harness Your Hopes or Type Slowly

-- what is your favourite song of 10?
Baby Bitch

-- how many times have you seen 8 live?
Never. And given David Berman's legendary stage fright, I probably never will.

-- what is your favourite album of 1?
Brighten the Corners

-- what is a great memory you have considering 9?
Listening to the song At Dawn driving in to work very early in on a summer morning with the windows down.

Rift is a good cd. Picture of Nectar = better.

I'd say you rightly ranked Rift above Nectar. I'm also glad your favorite Wilco lyric is from Via Chicago. I'm quite partial to Crumbling ladder tears don't fall, they shine down your shoulders as well.

Yeah that's a damn good lyric, but the one I listed just grabs you when you first hear that song.

I see we're both checking in on following the barley wine fest. The lyric you picked is certainly the better of the two for that reason, but the rest of the song doesn't let up. Thanks again for the incredible beer.

you should definitely see MMJ live. That will blow your hair back. (pardon the incredibly lame expression)

I'd love to see them. They don;t get up to New England that often, it seems.

hey fellow rift-is-my-favorite-phish fan! Rift literally put me to sleep every night from sixteen and a half to eighteen. Many times I couldn't stay up past Maze, and if I got past the second lengthwise, I knew I'd have to start it again.
