Is it good enough to salvage a 2-5 minute edit of it? Also, put up Swan Fragments/Fragmented Swan.

So I've been reading this really excellent article on Grateful Dead show recording/tape trading culture in the New Yorker. One of the things the writer talks about at length was one his personal favorite shows, from the early 80s, and how the tape of it was something sacred to him and his friends throughout college, and how a particular transition from "Scarlet Begonias" to "Fire on the Mountain" was exalted, but upon venturing into the larger community, it didn't stand out to others the same way. So naturally, as I'm reading this article, I need to be listening to the Dead, so I put on a Dick's Picks I borrowed once from the Greenhouses. I do this totally blind, but it turns out to not be the exact show, but from 1981, and including this same "Scar > Fire" transition. Turned out to be an ideal aid! It's interesting that for something so ridiculously arcane, ironically the noob can't really go wrong.

Then again, that doesn't hold a candle to the 5 times in a row listening to "Estelle" by Dan Bern on December 6th, 2011.

Keep in mind, that song x4 is like, 26 minutes spent.

On May 13th, 2009, I became incurably obsessed with "Changing of the Guards" by Bob Dylan, listening to it 4 times in a row. I'm sure using this feature I will find similar instances of madness at various points in my musical journey, which I very much look forward to.

You know how "From a Balance Beam" by Bright Eyes starts out with a few seconds of sound collage, mostly someone going "forever, and ever...."? I was just listening to the EP There Is No Beginning To the Story and realized that because it's the opening track, it accomplishes starting that record out like every Bright Eyes album, but proportional to the shorter EP length!

Thanks. I wish that too, though I suppose that 10 years or so was a pretty good run.
