The New Pornographers and Bloc Party

Yup- those are the two shows I went to this summer. Both were good, but also, both were good not only because of the main acts, but also the opening bands. Firstly… Mew opened for Bloc Party… unfortunately, I only caught one song of theirs because I came a bit late, but it was pretty kick ass, so I have to remember to look for them again some time. After that, the Secret Machines were up, and… well, enough said. Secret Machines. Yeah, they put on a fuckin rockin show. Plus, their guitarist uses the exact same guitar that I have, so I was pretty excited to see my guitar being used to produce such a massive sound. Bloc Party seemed to be the least interesting of the bands there… I'm not a huge fan. They were aright, but… this show was really about the Secret Machines for me.

Then the New Pornographers. The opening bands were The Frames and Calexico, and… well oh my god. The Frames rocked the whole show. For an opening band at summerstage, they drew a huge crowd. People had come all the way from Ireland to see them play. The way I would describe this band to you would be… Irish Folk Grunge Rock. Their first songs were a bit soft and hard to get into, but… after that, let me tell you, they rocked. They blew the stage wide open. Their frontman was this witty Irish man who would randomly squeak and squeal during his performance, much to my amusement. He would also take pauses in the middle of his songs to do a rain dance, hahaha, because it was such a motherfuckin hot day.. and guess what? It rained. After the show, I went out and bought one of their albums… For The Birds… as it turns out, this is one of their 'soft' albums, and while it was nice to listen to, it wasn't what I was looking for. apparently Burn The Maps is the one I should've bought. *shrug* oh well, I'll just pick that one up too, because this band was INCREDIBLE. They were the most innovative band I've seen in a while. A truly spectacular show. Three cheers for the frames.

Calexico proceeded to suck : /

I didn't like them very much.

And then the New Pornographers. Well, what can I say? I passed up Muse at like Hammerstein or Webster or something to see these guys. Even though I consider Muse to be VASTLY superior, when it comes to talent and musical prowess (I actually consider them to be the most talented and musical capable band making records today), the New Pornographers just kick ass, and I had to see this show. They were great live. Neko Case was cute as ever, and the rest of them were good too. They played really well. I would've liked for them to have been a bit more interesting on stage, but… they were really good so I can't complain.

Anyway. Coming up in the near future? I'm going to have to catch Built To Spill of course, and then, I'm also very very very excited because Electric Six is coming to NY again!! They put on an awesome show… there's truly nothing like it. Anyway. I'm tired of writing, so buh bye now
