Super, willkommen in der Gruppe :-) . Leider ist ist der Gruppe nicht sehr viel los :-( aber viel trauriger ist, dass die Gruppe sowenig Mitglieder hat. Die Merheit der Pop/Rock-Hörenden Menschen ist der Unterschied zwischen Mastering vor 1992 und Mastering nach 1995 meistens nicht bewusst oder egal. Sie sind z.Bsp. mit einer Super-Special-Remastered-Anniversary-Edition von Michel Jacksons Thriller als Ablösung ihrer Vinyl oder 80'er CD zufrieden!! Wenn man ihnen aber den Unterschied zeigt sagen sie: ist schon erstaunlich, hören aber weiter den Schrott. Wegen der Musiksammlung: ebenfalls eine schöne Sammlung, guter Geschmack! Leider gibt es da aus meiner Sicht eine Zusammenhang zwischen Leuten die sich etwas mehr mit Musik beschäftigen (=oft guter Musikgeschmack) und dem Bedürfnis, Musik in guter Qualität zu hören. Uns bleibt da nur, möglichst viele Leute zu informieren. Immerhin geben die SACD-Releases ein wenig einen Gegentrend zum Loudness War :-)

Oh, I have a crappy pair of electrics and a decent acoustic. I always play the acoustic since I tend to play more folk/jazzy/classical songs and I prefer finger picking over picks.

Excellent, another good rec! And I play some instruments. I have been playing guitar for 5 years and am a novice on piano. I used to play clarinet and ocarina.

I just realized the rip of Earth's Hex I have only has a DR of 9, when there is a pressing that has a DR of 12. Do you have a link to this better version?

I've listened to Lustmord before. Good moody, tenebrous stuff. I think I will be listening to a lot of Earth because this whole psychedelic western drone thing is very unique and matches the books I'm currently reading super super well. I will check out their later albums tonight, and this other similar band soon.

I really liked Hex. It reminds me of a western version of Bohren und der Club of Gore mixed with Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Acid Mothers Temple. It fit excellently to Stephen King's The Dark Tower series which I'm reading currently. The album grew on me as I progressed through it and I already want to badly listen to it again while reading, and would have if it weren't for other albums I need to check out just as immediately. Thank you for the great recommendation! Does Earth have other albums you'd recommend, or even similar sounding bands?

I have not heard of ECM, thank you for the suggestion. I am always on the look out for modern Jazz that is well produced! I have honestly heard VERY few songs with 18 DR, but they have always had phenomenal soundstage.

Yes, I've had more than my share of teaching people about audio fidelity and brickwalling. Most of them who ask me actually seem very interested in the subject, but 98%+ of the world will always be indifferent towards it because they are satisfied with their clipped lossy audio (and why not, it's free to them). The Loudness war subsisted off of people with shitty headphones who thought louder = better, so more people need to be properly educated to help stop it. Kudos to you, comrade. I have Sennheiser HD598s and I adore them. I've had them for a year. They are my babies. But yes, they have allowed me to properly hear poor masterings much better, which is bad for me since I listen to a lot of Metal.
