Sat 25 Sep – C.W. Stoneking and his Primitive Horn Orchestra, C.W. Stoneking, Johnny's Blue Bonanza

Listening to Mr Stoneking really is like stepping back in time to the 1920's, it's like them gramophone records - in a good way, mind! Don't think I've ever seen a band like this live! So very authentic sound, love the fullbodied feel to it - the lineup of 'the horn orchestra' consists only of trombone and trumpet, but boy do they sound like there's a whole lot more brass in there. Mr Stoneking's repertoire of a resonator guitar + banjo adds up nicely to the olden feel. Setlists varied a bit going from Friday to Saturday, 1st night was more of a standard gig whereas the 2nd one was a bit more mixed as Mr Stoneking did a few country blues numbers on his own - as well as giving it a go with a Tom Waits like storytelling.

Ain't no cure for them jungle blues, indeed! One of the highlights for this year - or any other year for that matter!
