Joe Boyd was interviewed on NPR today with a discussion of his new memoir about folk rock in the 60's and 70's, white bicycles. Joe Boyd produced bands such as the Fairport convention, Nick Drake, and even REM later in his career. He said something really interesting about the success, or lack thereof, of Nick Drake's records prior to his death/suicide. Apparently Joe Boyd and the head of Island records at the time were so confident and supportive of Nick Drake that in the contract there was a clause that Nick Drake's records can never be removed from the Island…
