Playlist Of Songs I Love By Artists I Can Never Get Enough Of

Every once in a while, I like to halt my musical discovery and indulge myself in musical re-discovery. A bunch of songs I love by artists I love that I've been listening to:

The Beach Boys
Help Me, Rhonda

—-At the Brian Wilson concert I attended, this was the song that finally got everyone out of their seats and DANCING!

Belly
Thief
—-I've been going through this one on guitar a lot recently. Easy, fun…It's a good break from all the BNL stuff I go through with their 7th and diminished chords and typical but awesome A7 to A7sus4.

Brand New
Sowing Season (Yeah)
—-Well, I don't love this song yet, but I threw it in there so I'll get to know it soon enough. The drumming really sticks out to me in this one; I just have to get over the bluntness when Jesse says, "I am not your lover."

Counting Crows
Richard Manuel Is Dead
—-From their New Amsterdam live album. Live Counting Crows music is candy. I've never heard guitar and piano blended so perfectly.

The Decemberists
We Both Go Down Together
—-Easily the most popular song off Picaresque, and when that album came out I never got why everyone thought it was so great. I was pretty into The Engine Driver and other tracks. But yeah…I get this one now.

Elliott Smith
Everybody Cares, Everybody Understands
—-I actually just chose this one because it was stuck in my head, and even though I've been listening to Elliott a lot lately, I figure it'd be nice if I knew more than Memory Lane, Needle in the Hay and Say Yes off the top of my head.

Frente!
Ordinary Angels
—-Sooooo good.

Guster
Happier
—-From Guster on Ice. This was never one of my favorite Guster songs. I never hated it, but I was never like, "Wow I need to listen to Happier." But the acoustic guitar, and Adam's harmonies…fantastic.

Jason Mraz
Please Don't Tell Her
—-This came on Mraz random after I listened to a few rounds of "Did I Fool Ya?" the other day and I just realized what an awesome song it was. And I'm Craaazzzzzyyyy

The Lilac Time
Foglights
—-One of my favorite Duffy tracks. This song is just fantastic.

The Magnetic Fields
All the Umbrellas in London
—-Any time anyone says, "All the dope in New York couldn't kill this pain," and that anyone is Stephin Merritt, you know you have something good coming.

Modest Mouse
Bankrupt on Selling
—-Just a nice, small acoustic song from these guys. I might learn this next.

Radiohead
High and Dry
—-One of the first (and only, actually) Radiohead songs I learned on guitar. I've been playing this one for . . . wow, probably two years now, and I just love it. There's something really special about playing the solo and adding in all the extra notes that I do to make it sound full when it's played solo.

Regina Spektor
Better
—-Regina Spektor? The word "kiss"? Yes, please.

Rhett Miller
Our Love
—-Originally I had a performance of "Bird in a Cage" by Rhett (I may beeeeeeeeee a bird in a cage, but at least it's your cage), but at the end there is about a thirty second banter that I didn't want to listen to a million times, so I put this one in. The only Rhett song I actually have. I've got his solo albums stored somewhere, but I don't have the HD space to add them right now. That's getting taken care of this week. I refuse to believe that there is anything catchier than this song.

Rilo Kiley
Does He Love You?
—-Probably my favorite Rilo Kiley song. I heard this one a couple years ago on random at a time when my parents were having a fight, and ever since it's meant a lot to me. I might feel like a "poseur" for having my favorite Kiley track off of More Adventurous, but I think that's their best album anyway and frankly, I don't care.

The Smiths
Unloveable
—-Up until recently, I never really gave this song the attention it deserved. Only Morrissey can say, "Black is how I feel on the inside," and get away with it. Jesse Lacey, his incarnation, couldn't even pull that one off.

Snow Patrol
How to Be Dead
—-Also my favorite Snow Patrol song. Probably the first Snow Patrol song I heard, because I bought Final Straw on a recommendation. Final Straw is their breakout album for a reason. This song to me is like a poem. It paints a perfect picture of two people fighting who care about each other.

The Vanity Project
These Wasted Words
—-With no Barenaked Ladies present you know I somehow had to throw in some Steven Page! ;) Well, I think this song is beautiful, and it's one of my favorites off TVP. Between, "We touched souls while walking across the coals," "It's easy to hurt the one you love the most / Stay with me; we're never giving up the ghost," and "Are we afraid to admit that there's more to life than love?" I can't decide what my favorite line from this song is. Oh yeah. Let's not forget:

These broken dreams are enough

To make better people give up, but not us

And these were added later on:
Ben Kweller
Hospital Bed
—-Almost as catchy as Rhett.

Broken Social Scene
Windsurfing Nation

Far
Nestle
—-The chorus vocals are just so sweet and touching and I just want to sing this one.

Fastball
You're An Ocean
—-Okay…This is definitely catchier than Rhett.

Jens Lekman
Jens Lekman's Farewell Song To Rocky Dennis
—-Didn't this win a grammy for best song with finger snaps? I think so.

The Libertines
Can't Stand Me Now
—-If anyone needs a good laugh, they should read Kate's Commandments. Pete Doherty must stop flirting with groupies and call Kate Moss three times a day or she will call off the wedding!

And I'm all out of commentary, but these are good songs, too:

American Music Club
Jesus' Hands

My Bloody Valentine
Sometimes

Nas
One Love (Nick Fury Remix)

Soul Position
Hand-Me-Downs

Wilco
heavy metal drummer
