Say Something

Hi,
last week was definitely something to remember for me - and somehow in both ways, positive and negative. But this ought to be about the music in my life…

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
> Captain Planet : new artist alert. I got this band recommended and it really made me curious about the German punk scene - at least when lyrics have a meaning.
> Beyoncé : new album alert. Well, this came unexpected. Beyoncé not only released a new album without a warning, she even made it a visual one. That’s why all the tracks come with a video (plus 2 additional video songs). So far I’ve only heard the audio versions and I have to say that I don’t like most of her new songs. :/
> The Antlers : flashback moment. A friend referred to songs from “Hospice” - an album I almost forgot to have listened to, when it came out in 2009. So that made me rediscover the songs and pay more attention to the content. And the lyrics couldn’t possibly be more sad. So if you’re feeling down, this could be your soundtrack.
> The Band Perry : Idk what exactly lets me explore some major American country acts this year. Maybe it’s due to the very good live performances at award show. At least this is how I got to know The Band Perry. And so I revisited their debut album, which grew on me a bit.
> The Black Pony : uhm, well, there was this album that I wanted to check out for some time. Little did I know that this kind of teen pop is too dull for me. Sorry :/
> Armin Van Buuren : this master of trance music has quite a few compilations with his name on it going round. Well, and some tracks are worth highlighting. But I’m not yet finished with finding out. ^^

Stats!

Most played artists:
> Madonna : if you ever looked at my last.fm profile, that should not surprise you. So in this case of fan times I once more enjoyed “American Life” - a Madonna album I did not think to appreciate that much. :)
> R. Kelly : uhm, I’m not really proud of the fact that I made it through his latest album “Black Panties”. And why? Because it is remarkably bad.
> Birdy : well, I have mixed feelings about her album “Fire Within”, because a few tracks are really going on my nerves lately. But then there are songs like “Wings” that are so much better.

Most played tracks:
> Say Something (feat. Christina Aguilera) : sadly that has been my personal hymn for the last couple of days. But put that fact aside and you have a very lovely ballad.
> Gods & Monsters : I did not hear about the unfriendly feedback for one of Lana Del Rey’s Facebook posts, but after I watched “Tropico” this track went up on my playlists. ^^
> Set Fire To The Rain : aw, a modern classic. If there is one Adele song I had to choose as my favorite, this would be it.

News?
> Glee’s Lea Michele recently released a single called “Cannonball”, which sounds like the kind of power voice pop you would expect from her. Let’s see if the producers of Glee will find a way to include the song in an episode. Btw. her album “Louder” will come out in March 2014.
> The latest video by Britney Spears would be “Perfume” - and it’s like the song - meh. :D
> Lady Antebellum’s “Compass” features Holi scenes, colorful lights and a happy attitude.
> “Cookie” by R. Kelly should not get any viewer attention, if I had my way. It’s just so dumb. Btw. most of his latest album “Black Panties” is dumb.
> Apart from some nice visuals the new Pixe Lott video “Heart Cry” does not really convince me. Maybe it’s because of the annoying whistle tune.
> For “Lover Not A Fighter” you get the joined talents of Tinie Tempah and Labrinth. And a new video, of course.
> Timbaland will probably soon present his new video “Know Bout Me”, which already has a Lyric Video. And as it is common for Timbaland singles there are feature artists. This time the song is supposed to have parts by JAY-Z and Drake, but I couldn’t really find them.
> Depending on the viewers age Union J’s “Loving You Is Easy” video may bring back memories from oh so many other pop music videos.
> Hm, “Borrow My Heart” sounds so cheesy for a song title. Speaking of cheesy - just watch the music video of Taylor Henderson’s debut single. It’s almost too much.

New in the German charts:
Animals : I already covered this re-entry about two months ago. But hey, that song is back. :P
