The Good, The Bad, The Best of K-pop 2010 (by djesine)

I thought I should just write a little note of how I felt about the Korean pop scene in 2010 since I am having my holidays now and I don’t exactly have anything to do right now. XD

*edit: sorry I'm a little brain-fried, so pardon my mistakes in grammar! D:

The Best Artists of 2010 (Idols)

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/42345015/tiara2.png
10. T-ara
- Many surprises & disappointments goes into T-ara this year. Some controversies, a new member, etc. Nevertheless, T-ara has made a big name for themselves and they deserve to be recognized.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/40656981/CNBLUE+2PNG.png
9. C.N.Blue
- One of the super rookies this year (similar to miss A). The have done super well since they debuted and their popularity is amazing. Seems like it is a deja-vu of what happened to F.T Island back then. Love! Love! Love! :)

Recommended Album: ,

8. 4minute
- 4minute's albums has NEVER been a letdown. was definitely one of the best albums of 2009, and the girls did not let down in . The powerful songs & dance is their style, and it is what makes me love them so much.

Recommended Album: ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/52917643/2PM+flawless.png
7. 2PM
- I suppose they had a bad start early this year. But they came back with a great album in the second half of the year. I hope they will continue with their musical style as shown in .

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/55157501/SHINee+2.png
6. SHINee
- SHINee has disappointed many fans with the shift of musical styles from 'contemporary' to more main stream. Despite the change, I still respect & love their songs. Lucifer is amazing, and Hello is probably one of the best songs of the year! I'd also like to point out the vocal improvement they had made suddenly - they improved so much everyone is shocked and now dubbing them the 'second TVXQ'.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/41991515/Kara+lupin.png
5. Kara
- Always working hard but gaining less attention than their 'rivals', SNSD. I have nothing but respect by the amount of effort they put in. To be honest, I don't really like Kara's musical style, but is one of the best albums of the year.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/28685677/BoA++in+character.png
4. BoA
- The queen made her comeback to the Korean pop scene this year, and thankfully it did not disappoint. She's the queen, that's enough said.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/43023647/2AM.png
3. 2AM
- I was actually shocked earlier this year when they managed to hold up well against 'promotional-rivals' SNSD. They deserve the awards the have won this year! Amazing accomplishments for an idol band that does not promote with catchy songs. They did better than 2PM this year, definitely!

Recommended Album: ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/46998379/B2ST+Sexy.png
2. B2ST
- These boys are the future of the K-pop male idols! Their exploding popularity is awesome to watch. No kidding but they might just be almost as popular as SHINee now even though the latter is a senior.

Recommended Album: ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/52468345/GEE+HQ.png
1. SNSD
- Their popularity is magic. The have probably really conquered the world already. Though to be honest from an old-fan's standpoint, I would prefer they weren't so popular like a year or 2 ago. XD "They are the best!" - well I guess they are the best indeed.

Recommended Album: ,

Others worth mentioning: SS501, F.T Island, MBLAQ, Davichi, f(x), Se7en, Younha, IU, Rain

The Best Artists of 2010 (Others)

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/51217751/WHEESUNG+115.jpg
10. Wheesung
- It was funny when he reused some tracks from his 2009 album in his newest, but hey, its Wheesung!

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/53016527/1.png
9. Hwayobi
- She is praised as one of the best vocalists around, and yes she is indeed. Her latest album titled features a track with rapper Outsider and overall it is very easy to listen through it all.

Recommended Album: ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/31411079/MC++20090713_mcmong_3.jpg
8. MC Mong
- I love him. He is one of the best rappers in the K-pop scene and his has his own unique style. The lyrics he writes can be extremely meaningful, and even though he did not release any album this year and is caught in the controversy, I'd love to add him to the list because he is really.. awesome.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/36762731/SeeYa+s2.png
7. Seeya
- They have experienced many hardships.. the change of members and finally they disbanded just recently. The are my most favorite group from Core Contents Media - yes I like them more than T-ara. I am happy that Nam Gyuri is coming back for their last album, and I wish them all the best.

Recommended Album: , ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/53901215/01.png
6. December
- I would describe their music as the 'typical Korean pop ballad style'. Typical but enjoyable is what I'd say. They are vocally great anyway! And one of them looks like Yunho from TVXQ! :D

Recommended Album: ,

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/5481358/SG+Wannabe.jpg
5. SG Wannabe
- Since their debut with Timeless, they have not disappointed fans with their new songs, even after the change of members. Although they aren't popular now as compared to the past due to the influx of idol groups, their talents are still being appreciated (by me at least LOL!) ~

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/29163555/20070910093ga2.jpg
4. Black Pearl
- I wanted to label them as 'idols' but considering their fame, I just couldn't. They have debuted a long time ago, and they are like the 'idol' version of Seeya, with catchier songs(?) I'd say. So they are like the in-between of Seeya & T-ara, and if you haven't heard of them, very recommended!

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/20039385/KJK.jpg
3. Kim Jongkook
- Mosquito voice! I don't think its easy to sing with that voice, and usually it will come off as irritating instead of nice. I think since KJK is already a legend since his Turbo days, is of course a great addition to the industry.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/5474124/Epik+High.jpg
2. Epik High
- I really hope the anti-fans who wants Epik High to fall just go away for good. Look at what you have done seriously.. it is quite obvious that Tablo is well-learned. Even though the issue is pretty much over, I hope Tablo is well and alright. is a great album hands down.

Recommended Album:

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/46559673.png
1. Park Hyo Shin
- He sings into your soul. His live is powerful enough to make you tear even if you don't know the language. Certainly the man who is said to be one of Korea's best singer ever. I am so thankful he released before enlisting into the army, but I will be missing him so much..

The Most Disappointing Artists of 2010

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_w6-eZ_9z-kQ/TBZ6Eeix8zI/AAAAAAAAAOI/4BReT7PieKM/s1600/leehyori-h-logic.jpg
5. Lee Hyori
- Maybe it is just me, but in my opinion, isn't as good as her older albums, and all the hype she created only lead to the disappointment!

http://thekpopnation.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/201004141108551001_13.jpg
4. 2PM
- As I stated above, 2PM had a bad start earlier this year. After their breakthrough with , was the greatest letdown ever. I thought that the entire album was crap.. till now I haven't even listen to it more than a 100 times with all the tracks combined.

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu342/xoxo_anqii/SuperJunior-BonamanaA.jpg
3. Super Junior
- I might die because Super Junior is here. Why!? Well, was a really good album which sent waves of K-pop that spread throughout the world together with SNSD's . However, the release of was quite a letdown because it the overall album did not sound as good as the previous one. I suppose it is because they have set the standard with their 3rd album, just did not hit the mark, thats why there was disappointment.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_o5mxSEZksiw/TJB4jx0tk1I/AAAAAAAABEA/kmsYLI_cNkU/s1600/2ne1-to-anyone-album-cover.jpg
2. 2NE1
- 2NE1's comeback was hyped everywhere because of their long absence in the K-pop scene. However wasn't quite what I expected and I thought that their debut album was much better. Although I'd say song like 'Go Away' is really good, the '2NE1-style' wasn't quite there. It sounded different, and CL seems to be getting too much exposure compared to the other members. I'm just sayin'..

http://wonderfulsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/2differenttears-509x509.jpg
1. Wonder Girls
- is a great song no doubt. What the lack is songs! The album consisted only of one new song and that is such a waste. I don't even think that releasing an album that consists of like 3 different languages even works out well. Like uh-huh.. I've waited so long for a comeback and all JYPE gave me was ONE song. Gosh that's utter disappointment!

Best Rookies 2010

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/52412819/coed+promo+2.png
5. Co-Ed
- They made a highly anticipated debut and the songs sounded good despite the autotune. Also, the idea of making it a mixed gender group attracted much more attention. I will be waiting for their comeback, I think it will be worth the anticipation.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/46260137/infinite1.png
4. Infinite
- Yes I don’t really listen to their songs, but after I saw them live, I dare say they are a promising group. Out of all the rookie male groups that debuted recently, they definitely have the best dance skills. Seriously, their dancing ability is no joke.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/48385659/Sistar+png.png
3. SISTAR
- I liked them since ‘Push Push’ and they have made vast improvements. The controversy that made them ‘copies of 2NE1’ shouldn’t even be an issue anymore. The style of the music is different anyway! Also they seem to have a pretty huge fanbase already, and are killing online music charts with new releases - its a pretty awesome feat.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/54357857/miss+A+football2.png
2. miss A
- Definitely the rookies of the year. Like C.N.Blue, just managed to win the Music Bank trophy shortly after debut, and that is not a usual sight. Now they are snagging awards everywhere and they kinda remind me of the Wonder Girls, only that the style of music might be a little different. I love Breathe, and I think they will make awesome comebacks!

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/53980121/Gossip_Girl.png
1. Rainbow
- They improved the most since , and the change was so drastic me and my friends went “that’s Rainbow!?” Both singles & is AMAZING. I love their style, I love their music. I’m just wondering why isn’t Kara getting these kind of songs instead.

Others worth mentioning: Secret, Dalmatian, Teen Top, Girl’s Day, G.NA, F.Cuz

The Worst of 2010

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/41991515/Kara+lupin.png
5. Kara
- I just thought the was really bad. It wasn’t nice enough for me to listen through it all. is so awesome though, I just wish they would create more albums of its kind, and sing more ballads like ‘I Am’.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/49916241/9+muses+debut+pic.png
4. Nine Muses
- The most basic problem boils down to them looking really really similar to SNSD. Even the pictures taken are the same! I don’t like nor want to bash them but the similarity is uncanny, and because of that I don’t really respect their originality yet. The song ‘Ladies’ wasn’t bad but I don’t like the sound if ‘No Playboy’, so yeah..

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/52917643/2PM+flawless.png
3. 2PM
- The same issue again; Don’t Stop Can’t Stop is one of the albums I don’t even want to listen to. A total turnoff! I’m sorry but the album is just… maybe its just me.

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/49524549/Girls+Day+How+do+I+look.png
2. Girl’s Day
- The girls made a terrible debut after creating hype everywhere, even with international fans with their Twitter accounts. The debut was a total turnoff (except ‘Control’ which was pretty good), and that’s why I had to put them here. NEVERTHELESS, the made an awesome comeback with new members & a great song! Just when I thought that they were fail… its a relief! :)

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/500/50283165/GP+basic+gpbasic+3.png
1. GP Basic
- Talk about listening to a kids song. No I cannot stand it, especially in such a mature industry. I still think that their company should think things through more thoroughly before even debuting the group. I mean for real? Kids that barely (or haven’t) undergoing the puberty stage singing as ‘professionals’ on the stage? No, I don’t think I can accept this just yet…
