Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been Canada's monarch since she ascended to the throne of the United Kingdom in 1952, being crowned on 2 June. In 1981, Her Majesty consented to become Colonel-in-Chief of The Calgary Highlanders. She receives regular reports from the Regiment on its activities, and last visited Calgary in June 1990.
The Regiment received a new Queen's Colour from Her Majesty while parading before her with the King's Own Calgary Regiment (RCAC). The Calgary Highlanders were one of the last Canadian infantry regiments to replace the Union Jack with the new flag of Canada. Her Majesty continues to take a keen interest in all of her Canadian Regiments.
From the Canadian Heritage Site: "When the regiments of the British and Canadian Armies were first formed, many had a royal patron who agreed to become the ceremonial commander of the unit or its “Colonel-in-Chief.” Perhaps foremost among the reasons for such patronage was the desire to reinforce, within the ranks of the regiment, a loyalty to the Crown through this personal relationship with a member of the Royal Family. The Colonel-in-Chief remains in close contact with his/her regiment and takes a very personal ongoing interest in its well being and that of its members. One of the most colourful and significant moments in the life of a regiment is when its Colonel-in-Chief presents new colours Ia flag bearing the insignia of the Colonel-in-Chief, the regiment and, oftentimes, its battle honours). Old colours are retired and given a place of honour as the new colours are first presented and marched past the members of the regiment."

Queen Elizabeth II of its full name Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born April 21, 1926 in London, England. Her father was King George VI and her mother was Queen Elizabeth (the late Queen Mother.) Future Queens don't go to school like you and me. Elizabeth and her sister Princess Margaret were taught at home by tutors. Her father became king in 1936. Elizabeth studied history and law. She also studied art, music, learned to horseback ride. She even became a Girl Guide when she was eleven. (That's like Girl Scouts in the United States.) Future Queens don't just marry anybody. Elizabeth married Lieutenant Mountbatten in Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. Lieutenant Mountbatten was the son of Prince Andrew of Greece and a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria. Today he is called HRH (His Royal Highness) Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
Elizabeth and Prince Philip have four children, Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales born on November 14, 1948, Princess Anne, now The Princess Royal born on August 15, 1950, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York was born on February 19, 1960, and Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex born on March 10, 1964.
Elizabeth's father, King George VI died on February 6, 1952. She was proclaimed queen that very day. Her coronation was heard on radio and broadcast on television around the world on June 2, 1953.
She is the current Queen and Head of State of the United Kingdom of Great-Britain and Ireland of the North, as well as Queen of Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, the Barbados, Belize, Canada, Granada, Jamaica, New Zelandia, New Papua Guine, Is Cristovao and Nevis, Lucia Saint, Are Vicente and Granadinas, Islands Salomao and Tuvalu.
She is also head of the British, Governing Community Supreme of the Church of England, Commander-Head of the Armed Forces of the United kingdom and Lorde de Mann. Isabel II inherited these headings of its father, the King Jorge VI, deceased the 6 of February of 1952. She is also currently the state head that is in the power has more time in the Europe, in Americas, Africa and Oceania, being second in the world, only one years backwards of King Rama IX of Thailand.
