Thanks for putting me on to Major Lazer. Now the inaugural St Maarten Dancehall Queen Championships will lull me to sleep for the rest of the month. The DVD is a must-buy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7ZZXKS7G2Q (PS Did I ever tell you about my six month stint in St Maarten 2008 as part time stripper?)

Oh! Weird! I didn't think it was possible to scrobble from an iPhone, but it just updated my profile with iPhone plays when I synced it....

Awright Dazza. What's up? Must really give you a buzz someday on that Skype yoke. Don't really see you on there much these days. I been without a laptop for about 2 months now, so no music here whatsoever. Getting back into the game now though. Any gems for me?

Awright Macca? Just tucking into your stuff here. First Album...AFTER HOURS (1957)..My Godness what a lovely session. Paul Chambers on Bass, Kenny Burrell on geetar, Frankie Wess on super flute etc etc. Immaculate album, every instrument instrumental. Beautiful. Keep up the good work.

Yes I. If you've any Paul Chambers stuff let me know and I can get it offa you soon. Ain't no man can bow a bass like that. Bass on Top - real nice album though I haven't really been able to listen to it properly yet - my desktop PC speakers struggle with the mega-low bass on offer, and my tacky headphones aren't up to the task.

Twill surely be just that, to be sure. A pretty quick binge for me though unfortunately. I don't anticipate sleep t'all during the holliers. I picked up the EMI Best 100 Guitar box set last week for a nice price. 6 CDs of classical guitar. Well not jes' classical, but Baroque, Spanish composers 1 & 2, Latin American composers, Joaquín Rodrigo and Modern composers in there. Maybe it's not your kinda thing but it's a real sweet box set at the right price. http://www.100bestseries.com/releases5/guitar100.htm When you back? Maybe we can have a tin of beer?

Yep, with a pretty nice lineup too I see. Not to worry - I reckon I'll manage to make Picnic 2011 or failing that 2012 definitely. That's a defo. See you there in T minus 24 months.

Nothing like sitting at home on a Sunday morning and NOT being at the Picnic, listening to the darkest dangerous depths of Townes Van Zandt instead. Or in your case bitter Americana/Country satire like Lambchop.

Sup dawG? Good to hear from you th'other night. See you've been listening to (and loving) Philip Glass. Goodo. If you have the time on Sunday evenings between the various drug, sex and champagne orgies that double-bass gigging in West Cork entails be sure to check out the wonderful NOVA programme on LyricFM at 20:30. Host Bernard Clarke usually plays a horseload of P.Glass in between other rare & bizarre minimalist classical pianists, composers and electronic noise gurus. The show really isn't for everyone but if you're fond of tantalisingly repetitive structures that slowly and unnoticably build up into a an awesome crescendo then tune in! Minimal TO THE MAX!

I'll see what I can do. I don't have that album (yet). And as I mentioned the whole aim is to get through me own album collection which is spiralling out of control. Cheers for support. Laterz.

Kurt is dandy though, no doubt. I've been hooked on OUD radio of late. (Play "oud" tag). Really is pretty. You going to Avashai next week?

Funny oul thing this LastFM compatibility lark. For the last month my "musical compatibility with darrenmcbass is Very Low " (thanks Rian). Then you go and listen to 60 (yes 60) Kurt Rosenwinkel tracks in one day and now we're SUPER compatible. Very queer altogether.

However like all music genres (and I mean ALL), calypso too has suffered as it has become more popular and overproduced. Same as blues (the very day the elec guitar was introduced to the realm), rap (as soon as cussing became acceptable) and boybands (when Robbie got too cool for Take That) to name a few examples. To prove this point simply listen to "Lord Kitchener Radio" for half an hour or so. Most pleasant altogether as I've just discoved. Afterwards listen to the Tag "SOCA". I'll give you a 6-pack of Hackenberg if you can withstand Soca Radio for 30 mins. If he were alive today I'm quite sure Kitchie "The Grandfather of Soca" would be vomiting rum on his grave in disgust. Nothing but booties, sexy ladies, cash money, hot mamas and late night dancing. Really now.....
