Before I begin, I want to say that I do not believe in ranked lists and the idea that there is somehow any "definitive" list/standard to measure music by. The whole idea of measuring music by influence is impossible–what matters to one person may not to another. I do not know enough about a lot of punk and metal, so certain groups that are very influential to some have not influenced me much as a listener (that can change, however). So if you say, "I do not understand why so-and-so is not on this list," I will say that these are only some of the albums I enjoy listening to. Also, do not assume that I find all of these albums equal in quality. I will continue editing this as I hear more music. And also, I would be very grateful for recommendations for certain genres or artists for me to get into. Thanks, Josh

I also highly recommend the whole "Atlantic Rhythm & Blues 1947-1974" box set, but it is only shown on last.fm in its eight separate discs. Same for the two-disc various artists compilation "The Blue Note Years Vol. 2: The Jazz Message." (I need to hear more of the other compilations taken from the limited edition "Blue Note Years" box set.)
