1991

5: Garth Brooks - Ropin' the Wind

Garth Brooks followed up his multi-platinum No Fences album with this one which was almost just as huge. This includes his cover of Billy Joel's "Shameless", as well as "Rodeo", "What She's Doing Now", "Papa Loved Mama", "Against The Grain" and "The River". Stellar album, and a must-have for anyone who even likes country music just a little bit.

4: Queen - Innuendo

This was Queen's final studio album before Freddie Mercury's passing in November of 1991. It's amazing that someone so ill could create such phenomenal music. The title track alone is such a masterpiece, it will blow you away. It also includes the great songs "I'm Going Slightly Mad", "Headlong", "These Are The Days Of Our Lives", and "The Show Must Go On." While researching info on this album, I realized it only went Gold in the US and reached number 30 on the charts, while reaching number one and multi-Platinum status in other countries, which only proves that Americans don't always know what good music is. And finally, I will just quote a reviewer from Amazon.com: "Listen to the CD again. And then you can cry for what we have lost." Well said.

3: Skid Row - Slave to the Grind

This was Skid Row's sophomore album which was a lot darker and heavier than their first. I personally find it to be superior. It includes my all-time favorite song of theirs, "Monkey Business", as well as the other hit single "Wasted Time". My other favorites are "Livin' On A Chain Gang", "In A Darkened Room", "Mudkicker", "Riot Act", "Quicksand Jesus", and the title track. If you got the original unedited version, it included the track "Get The Fuck Out"; but the album was also released as a "clean version" with the track "Beggar's Day" instead.

2: Metallica - Metallica (AKA The Black Album)

Okay, who doesn't have this, raise your hand? Aren't you ashamed? Just kidding. Seriously though, anyone who likes rock music has to have this, even if you're not particularly a metal fan. I know some of the so-called die-hards still think Metallica "sold-out" by making this album and having it reach such universally famed status. But to me, those aren't true fans. A true fan likes it all, or at least appreciates and recognizes when the music is good. I can't stand people who think their music can only be their music and doesn't want to share it with others (music snobs!). This album is truly great from beginning to end, and that is undeniable! It includes of course the huge hits "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven", "Nothing Else Matters", "Sad But True" and "Wherever I May Roam", as well as my two personal favorites "The God That Failed" and "My Friend of Misery".

1: Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion I & Use Your Illusion II

This was really the year I became a GN'R fan. Because of these two albums. I remember my brother picking me up from school the day they were released (not quite sure why as he usually didn't), and he had just bought the CDs. This was back when they were still in the long box. I already knew the songs "You Could Be Mine" and "Don't Cry", but when my brother played the song "November Rain" for me, I was hooked. Throughout the rest of my high school years, most people knew me as a huge Guns N' Roses fan. Once I started driving, it was almost all I listened to in my car. I'm sure I drove my friends nuts. To this day, there has never been another great kickass band like GN'R. If you are a casual fan, I may not recommend these albums as they are full of curse words. You may be just as happy with a compilation CD. But if that sort of thing doesn't offend you, and you love all the songs you already know by them, then by all means get these!

Honorable Mentions: U2 - Achtung Baby, Prince - Diamonds & Pearls, Lita Ford - Dangerous Curves, Nirvana - Nevermind, Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears, Pearl Jam - Ten, Trisha Yearwood - Trisha Yearwood, Natalie Cole - Unforgettable, Mr. Big - Lean Into It, Firehouse - Firehouse, Erasure - Chorus, Belinda Carlisle - Live Your Life Be Free, Amy Grant - Heart In Motion, Van Halen - For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, Suzy Bogguss - Aces, Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger, Tesla - Psychotic Supper, Paula Abdul - Spellbound, Pam Tillis - Put Yourself In My Place, Mariah Carey - Emotions, Great White - Hooked, Cher - Love Hurts
