Wed 25 Jul – The Format

[Anyone know how to prevent last.fm from cutting off the sides of the pictures?]

Steph and I showed up late, having to drive from Milledgeville and wanting to eat (La Hacienda in Fayetteville) before the show...and partly because we just wanted to catch The Format and gtfo. I've seen Limbeck and Steel Train on other Format tours; they're awesome, but shows at The Masquerade wear me out when there are four acts ahead of the one you came to see...so I wasn't in a rush to make it there at 6:30.

At any rate, we managed to make it there right as The Honorary Title finished up, and grabbed a spot at the front right of the stage.

I can never remember the order, but I know they played the following songs...

Dog Problems
Wait, Wait, Wait
I'm Ready, I Am
On Your Porch
The First Single
Matches
Oceans
Dead End
Janet
Time Bomb
She Doesn't Get It
Snails
The Compromise
If Work Permits
Tie the Rope
Caravan (Van Morrison cover)

This was the sixth time I've seen TF (the fourth time at the Masquerade), and was probably the best setlist...a good mix of Dog Problems and Interventions and Lullabies songs, and a great cover choice...

And the caravan is on it's way
I can hear the merry gypsies play
Mama mama look at Emma Rose
She's a-playin with the radio
La, la, la, la...

And the caravan has all my friends
It will stay with me until the end
Gypsy Robin, Sweet Emma Rose
Tell me everything I need to know
La, la, la...

Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you

Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher radio
Turn it up, turn it up, so you know, radio
La, la, la, la...

And the caravan is painted red and white
That means ev'rybody's staying overnight
Barefoot gypsy player round the campfire sing and play
And a woman tells us of her ways
La, la, la, la...

Turn up your radio and let me hear the song
Switch on your electric light
Then we can get down to what is really wrong
I long to hold you tight so I can feel you
Sweet lady of the night I shall reveal you
Turn it up, turn it up, little bit higher, radio
Turn it up, that's enough, so you know it's got soul
Radio, radio turn it up, hum
La, la, la, la...

...which is strange, because only nights before, I had a dream about owning a gypsy van...

At any rate, I'm pretty fortunate to have a persuasive girlfriend who can talk her way into everything from a Masonic lodge to a tour bus...

Sam and Don were the nicest dudes...I'm convinced that The Format is the nicest band ever...I've met Nate on a few occasions and he's the most down-to-earth guy...

We ended up getting back to Milledgeville at around 3 or 4 in the morning...somehow I managed to go to class on no sleep...thanks to Blackbird and their amazing coffee...

Nate told us they'll be back in Atlanta again when the new record comes out...here's hoping it'll be much sooner...I hear rumors of a Sam/Nate acoustic tour...

P.S. Dog Problems is now out on vinyl...make it your next purchase...I know I am...

Haha, I can see myself in front of the barricade in one or two of your photos.
