that's awesome about sir Mix-a-lot, haha. At this point, I'm equal parts chagrined and amused that that's the last song I played on here.

I actually don't have any of his albums except New York (and that's the most VU-like of his solo ostensibly). I heard the blue mask here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9elkY8G3OE&list=PLA35ED9C05508723D also poignant given the import of today - "the day jfk died", the bar he was in when he heard about it (lucy's if the internet's to be believed) is now a crappy sports bar/conference room called retired surfer's bar. You couldn't pay me to go there today. it also has a direct homage to delmore schwartz, and little syracuse references like that. hard to believe he went to school here, this fratlandia I now call home.

yeah I was, but listening to the Blue Mask made for better exorcism than the usual Transformers/Berlin stuff. What a great antithesis to the Lou Reed/NYC ideal everyone chose to memorialize. [So tired of hearing about "demimondes" and "downtown cool" Esp if you're more a VU fan. Sorry I've been so terrible with replies in general. More soon. rob sheffield's obscure lou picks - http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lou-reed-20-hidden-treasures-20131107

I guess Bowie isn't ever going to tour again :( yeah, the BSB album that I'm referring to technically isn't their first, since it wasn't their first international release. It was released in the US as simply Backstreet Boys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backstreet_Boys_%281997_album%29). Prior to the blockbuster Backstreet's Back (also an international release) album they released their actual debut (also titled Backstreet Boys which was a completely different set of songs) internationally but not in the US. It actually contains many of the hits of Backstreet's Back and is a better album, and was geared towards the boyband saturated US market of the time (I think it had to do with the success of Hanson). I don't get the politics of album releases by national demographics. I mean I kinda do, but yeah.

sorry, just realized I was referring to the knack performance that I had looked up (not one you sent me) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNtte1pBV1Q also, isn't that a riff(!) on the classic bo diddley riff?

sorry for the late reply! I like one direction just fine actually. I don't understand the sudden popularity of boybands again (and I also like their verses more than their choruses). I was listening to the first BSB album today and I must be getting old in the tooth, because I thought man, BSB smokes One Direction (nostalgia for my youth, obv). But I suppose New Kids on the Block fans growing up in the 80s probably thought the same thing about BSB. Although, I wonder, since many critics OBJECTIVELY regard BSB as the premier boyband of ALL TIME. :) I can kinda hear the similarity I guess? The Knack song is so epic, and the audience at that concert look positively and actively dispassionate. I wonder how many no wavers were "ironically" there.

solid. better than sisterworld imo. no 1 against the rush was stuck in my head for a while. you? to me its looking like drums not dead will remain the peak of their development, kinda disappointed they went more into the straightforward shit like cycle time and whatnot

I didn't like it all that much as a whole. the first song and the last song are great. and seven naked valleys is also a standout, but besides that, it's mostly kind of flat and uninteresting. running for your life is decent.
