Thu 1 Feb – Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Cold War Kids
The first gig for clap your hands say yeah on their some loud thunder tour kicked off at Tripod in Dublin.
I arrived during the support act, cold war kids. Now I'd had a wee listen to these guys before the gig to see what they were about but after my indie-snob friend denounced them as 'Maroon 5 in disguise' after approximately one riff, the party was taken to the back bar.
There I spent ten minutes of my precious life queueing for two pints of watery Guinuess. Put three barmen on for a sold-out gig? Nice one Tripod.
During the consumption of said pints though, Tori Amos walked by, and that cheered us up a little. After that it was into the gig hall, where the smell of vomit suggested the support act had performed a cover of this love.
The gig kicked off with some loud thunder, and it was immediately obvious that the sound was far too low. Withstanding that Alec Ounsworth & co. banged out the new tracks with aplomb, satan said dance and that Moma, Won't You.. track immediately impressing. The sound quality was frustrating at this stage, and much of the crowd vocally complained.
Big hits from the first album, Let The Cool Goddess Rust Away, Is This Love? and Heavy Metal placated before the band left the stage.
The band came back out and banged out in this home on ice but then astonishingly and abruptly closed the curtain, a cool 45 minutes after they arrived on stage, leaving a bitter taste.
Whether this was Tripod policy so they could open their club and grab more cash is worth some consideration. Needless to say this is a venue I will not be arsed visiting in future.
A disappointing start to Clap Your Hand's tour.
