I have not properly assimilated it myself. I think that the sound quality of his albums has steadily increased over the years, each one superior to the previous, making this one his best sound-wise. My favorite thing about DEW though is his lyrics. On this album he's still witty as always, but lacking the emotional punch of Every Missing Duck and the shocking gross-out stories of all his previous albums. I suppose he has probably outgrown the latter, which I can't fault him for, but the only really strong emotions I felt were those evoked by the Nixon sample on the last track. Kudos to DEW for humanizing Nixon, but I still wished for more emotional depth overall. Again though, I haven't fully ingested the album yet and may listen to it again tomorrow and have a completely different reaction. All of David's albums are great, and this is certainly no exception. Whatever complaints I have aren't really that significant, even to me; I'm just giving you my honest first impression.

I felt my right ear starting to go out during one abrasive, sustained frequency of Xiu Xiu's, before Swans even started. After Swans' set i felt like I could only hear out my left ear for about a day.

Yes! I loved it! "Coward" was the best part, I thought. But the whole thing was pretty mind-blowing.

Okay. The only reason I even noticed was because sometimes I'll play my friends' radio on here and something totally bizarre (for me, anyway) like Hall and Oates will come on, and 100% of the time it will have come from your library. It's actually quite funny. I listen to a lot of Disneyland music myself, but last.fm doesn't like that tag so it won't play in my radio.

Sorry, but I've got to ask, do you have a wife or something who listens to last.fm with your account? Noticing Amy Grant alongside the likes of Prurient would seem to indicate that you have an almost schizophrenic diversity of taste. Please don't take this as an insult as I actually find it quite amusing.

Perhaps he'll come to Southern California sometime soon, but I doubt it. I was fortunate enough to see Swans down here when Jarboe was still on board, and also got to see Rozz a couple times when he was still alive, one of the shows being Premature Ejaculation. Those are probably the greatest musical events about which I can boast of my presence.

I "won" it from him on Facebook after answering a question he posted. So I take it you've seen DEW live? That must have been something. I haven't had the chance yet :(

I've been enjoying the Premature Ejaculation remasters I was actually able to purchase. Money got tight though so I'm several releases behind now. Some day though, I'll manage to get my hands on the rest of those ugly beauties...

Hahaha, yep! This is a perfect example of the vanilla music listening habits I keep in the year 2011. †‡† opened the floodgates for me, and I've been a dirty hipster ever since.

Hey Lane, so to answer your question, the (bad:) seeds of the story of Perigee can be traced back to my childhood, where a young nabraxas began telling stories of the kids that he was going to have as an adult. The first kid was named Stump and I was going to chop off his arms and legs and lock him in the basement (what a charming lad, eh?)... The second kid (as well as a sneak peek into Perigee #3) is named Carcass and well, I won't give away that one's unique fate just yet... Other children are named along similarly bent archetypes... All to be revealed (though don't hold your breath. According to my current rate of production, one might presume that 'Stump' himself were drawing this comic : P Although, even he could eventually work around his presumed handicap : )

Thanks for the recommendations, I will check those out. I am hoping to catch Cold Cave in a couple weeks and I know that Prurient is opening so all the more reason to check out the music before the show. And I haven't heard anything about Cindytalk but I will find out now that I know there is music in the works. mmm, his voice! :)
