Oh I did tell you, didn't I :D My memory doesn't exactly improve with age... I should get around to reading Perlebryggeriet as well, which was her debut as an author. Her second book "Inn i ansiktet" was quite good as I recall. Looking forward to hearing more from Austra, I enjoyed their debut quite a bit. The backing singers do pretty well on their own (Tasseomancy).

I don't know if James Blackshaw is your kind of thing, but if you are down with minimalistic improv his collaboration with "Hurricane" Lubomyr Melnyk, The Watchers, is definitely worth your attention. I had soaring expectations for this record, and am loving it more with each listen now that it's finally arrived. Mr. Melnyk also has a record of his own due on Erased Tapes, Corollaries.

What do you think of Julia Holter re-recording Betsy on the Roof? I have incredibly high expectations for this one as it's hands down my favourite song of hers, especially since getting to hear it performed live :)

I don't mind prioritizing Unsound over CMJ though, considering I got to experience the inimitable Julia Holter with a string quartet and Tim Hecker / Dan Lopatin back to back in the beautiful St. Catherine's Church. That was easily the highlight of the festival for me, although I was also mightily impressed by synth wiz Bee Mask and thoroughly pummeled by Factory Floor's four to the floors.

Did you attend CMJ? I wasn't in attendance myself, and am probably the poorer for it, but at least I find some comfort in this HQ video recording of the Mozart's Sister show! The soul is strong with this one.

I heard your program, it was great. I enjoyed especially the interviews with Claire and d'Eon, I love that you interspersed Claire's interview with music from her whole catalogue. Whenever I hear songs from Halfaxa, I'm always reminded of how special she is. I'm also pleased to hear how thoughtful and well-spoken she comes across in this interview, sounds like she's coping rather well with having been plunged into pop stardom.

I'm not really feeling Life Is People, sadly... It sounds surprisingly like MOR "folkrock" to my ears, and doesn't really encourage repeated listens. There's little to remind one of the inspired brilliance of Bill Fay of yore, although I kind of like his cracked voice.

Oh yeah soulseek, that brings me back... Wendy's voice is absolutely incredible yes, the reason I love After Laughter so much is the raw emotion this lady is able to convey with her voice. It just bowls me over. Pretty much the definition of soul if you ask me. I just listened to Give You What I Got, and I realized I've heard this tune in the past, and I absolutely love it!

I have a huuuge crush on After Laughter, after initially hearing it in This Is England '86. And then you segue into Eternal Life and then Strawberry Letter 23, both of which I love. Brilliant.
