Sat 24 Mar – Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium, the pAper chAse

explosions in the sky. What can I even say about these guys. Show was unreal. Their set had a perfect flow to it, a good mix of tracks new and old.

The intesity of their performance really heightens their music. Knowing they're giving 100% of themselves to their songs make it mean a whole lot, and by the end of the set you could see how tired they were.

Surprisingly the drumming was bang-on. I never really focused on the drums because of the washing guitars, but what a great sound. At times distant, then split second in your face; a great dynamic.

Not sure about a complete setlist, but some songs I think were played:

They played for an hour straight, but it went by so quick! I wanted an encore, but instead Munaf came out, thanked us, and told us we can come back tomorrow night. If only I had another ticket.

Just to note, the openers? Well… eluvium was ok: very ambient stuff, meant more as a solitary experience than a live one.

the paper chase? Pretty… uhh… odd. The lead singer was very flamboyant, and tweaked around on stage. Lyrics were shite to be honest, and the guitar work was almost annoying. A lot of their songs sounded similar: piano hook, whining lyrics, weird rock out portions.

Also, Explosions merch is kickass. All the shirts rocked, but the great thing was a limited edition card-stock poster. I heard that only 60 were printed, and by the end of the show they were sold out, so I was glad I got one before their set. Very very cool.
