Dandy Love

Now I'll admit that I wasn't a fan of the Dandy Warhols, I hadn't followed them through their career and I don't think I'd ever bought one of their albums (despite having heard and possibly posessing most of them) however after a friend who was besotted by them as an early adolescent wanted so badly to go and see this gig that I agreed to going along just out of loyalty to my mate and with only a mild interest in the band.
After hearing all the worst feedback it the world; that I would leave completely disillusioned and feeling ripped off, that they would be flat and not acknowledge let alone engage the audience, I steeled myself to be severely let down. Admittedly the Dandy's started off slowly and the first hour or so of music left me feeling a little like they were going through the motions in a rather robotic and totally unenthusiastic manner (I went to the bar a lot).
However the second half of their set smashed its way into the audience with the band ripping into old favourites and whipping the audience out of the glazed stupor they'd been entranced in. With the opening chords of 'Bohemian like you' the band swung the venue vibe a hundred and eighty degrees, turned up the heat and bitch slapped us awake.
Classic numbers like 'We used to be friends', 'Get Off', 'Godless' and 'Not If You Were the Last Junkie on Earth' poured out filling the place with a vivacious energy and addictive euphoria swam through the crowd as people pushed to the front for the remainder of the set.
Particularly impressive energy in their encore (not something Dandy's are known for apparently) left the crowd, band and myself feeling exhausted, sweaty, satisfied and totally pleasantly suprised.
