I just found at blabbermouth.net a link to a great best-of-2005 list, compiled by the Brazilian magazine Whiplash. They asked 111 artists, from all sub-genres in heavy metal, what where their favourite albums of 2005, and here's what they answered:

I wrote a small script, and generated the list below from those answers.
Each line starts with the number of artists that voted on that album, and I'm only listing albums that got 3 or more votes (30 in total).

If you don't agree with this list, well, just don't shoot the messenger (most of my favourites weren't also included).
