Tuesday, April 7th
Scion and Church of the 8th Day present Brutal Truth, Lair of the Minotaur
8:00 PM, Free with tickets from Scion webpage
Legendary grindcore trailblazers Brutal Truth triumphantly return after ten-plus years with Evolution through Revolution, delivering yet another classic in the band's legacy of indispensable records. The band razes the bar within the genre they helped pioneer by setting another high water mark for grindcore-to-come. The album’s pure and vital hybrid of ear-shredding extremes virtually explodes out of the speakers with the urgency of the times. Simply stated, Evolution through Revolution is Brutal Truth at the height of its powers.

Thursday, April 16th
Afrobeta, Palenke Soul Tribe, Los Hollywood
8:00 PM, $12
From the Miami NewTimes Crossfade Blog: “Cosmic. Karmic. Ghettotech house. These are a few of the words used by local duo Afrobeta to describe their sound. An ambient blend of disco, funk and house with underpinnings of various other electro styles ranging from breaks to trance and even a bit of gabba, Tony "Smurphio" Laurencio and Cristina "Cuci Amador" Garcia's distinct flavor tastes kind of like old school Deee-Lite would if it were rolled in sugar and served by an old dude with a churro cart on Calle Ocho. Smurphio's funky beats and campy melodies caress Cuci's sweetly soothing bilingual vocals perfectly.

Thursday, April 30th
Hard-On For Trouble
Hosted by Masuimi Max, featuring Mondo Generator & the Kill Devils, plus DJ Johnny Devil & DJ Hellhound
9:00 PM, $10, 21+
Model, spokesperson, and winner of the Favorite International Fetish Model award at ‘08’s Erotica LA, Masuimi is an exotic eyeful and boisterous personality who will take you on a journey into the endless party. As your Hostess with the overflowing most-est, Masuimi will be your MC as Hard-On for Trouble lands at the Knitting Factory. Making sure their debut night here is extra-special, the musical highlight is none other that Nick Oliveri’s Mondo Generator. The former Queens of the Stone Age founder’s group plays a no-apologies onslaught of hard, thrashin’ punkified rock ‘n’ roll. Says Kerrang, "The devil-bearded human hurricane cranks out a set that borders on psychotic."

Thursday, May 14th
Halifax
7:00 PM, $10 advance, $12 day of show
Few bands have managed to bridge the great divide between rock, punk and metal with their hooks, hearts and hopes in tact quite the same way these electric warriors have. More than mere troublemakers with guitars, Halifax are songcraft specialists with enough vision to merge the best of all possible approaches, which explains the group’s unique delegation of responsibilities to both Taking Back Sunday producer Lou Giordano and hard rock veteran Machine. The songs are loaded with hooks, be it the pop-meets-pummel charge of “Nightmare,” or the irresistible, inventive first single, “Our Revolution.” The latter’s Mick Mars-themed riffs and rebellious “Hell yeah!” refrain qualify it as 7-Eleven parking lot music for the 21st Century. Says Mike, “It’s an homage to classic metal, and Motley Crue in particular.”

Saturday, May 23rd
George Lynch’s Souls of We
8:00, $20 advance, $25 day of show
Souls of We signifies a new beginning for world-renowned guitarist George Lynch (Dokken, Lynch Mob) and legendary Hollywood frontman London LeGrand (Brides Of Destruction). The chemistry between Lynch and LeGrand was instant and undeniable. George Lynch’s Souls of We is a modern rock band with strong songs forged by the consummate frontman and one of the best guitarists in the world. This quartet will really start turning heads once they hit the road and fans see the band in action.

Thursday, May 28th
The Human Abstract, Oh Sleeper, I Wrestled A Bear Once, Vanna
7:00 PM, $12 advance, $14 day of show
From All.music.com: “When a band takes its name from one of the metaphysical British poet William Blake's most allegorical and impenetrable poems, they clearly aren't taking the easy route to fame and fortune. In keeping with their titular inspiration, the Human Abstract favors a brainy, progressive take on contemporary metal and hardcore that looks beyond the usual cars and girls themes. Inspired by progressive rockers like Rush and Dream Theater along with heavier contemporary acts like Between the Buried and Me, the Human Abstract recorded a demo and played a number of regional gigs before signing with the local indie Hopeless Records in 2005. Working with producers Eric Rachel and Jamie King, longtime veterans of the Southern California post-hardcore scene, the Human Abstract released their debut album, Nocturne, in August 2006.”

Their latest, Midheaven, is out now.

Friday, May 29th
KROQ Presents the Briggs, Time Again, Viva Hate, Majority Lost
7:30 PM, $12 advance, $14 day of show
Formed by brothers Jason (guitar, vocals) and Joey LaRocca (guitar, vocals), the Briggs made their debut in 2001 with Is This What You Believe and have been on a roll ever since. Joined by Chris Arredondo (Drums) and Ryan Roberts (Bass), the band quickly caught fire in 2004 when they signed with LA’s notorious punk label SideOneDummy Records. Later that year the band released the critically acclaimed EP, Leaving the Ways, which Alternative Press called “snotty, fist-pumping street punk with a message,” and 2006’s tour-de-force Back to Higher Ground. Their most recent work, Come All You Madmen, erupts with explosive, sing-along working-class street punk.
