I am not a drummer and I have never tried to play a drum before. I am making this list according to what my ears hear. You may say "I don't know how many cum is filled in your ears but, your list sucks" But(yes it is, BUT) these are what I love, without explaining why I love their drumming a lot..

1-Sean Reinert - Death
2-Gene Hoglan- Death
3-Richard Christy - Death
4-Flo Mounier - Cryptopsy
5-Frank Ferreira - Helstar
6-Yanic Bercier - Quo Vadis
7-Chris Adler - Lamb of God
8-Igor Cavalera - Sepultra
9-Scott Travis - Judas Priest
10-Vinnie Paul - Pantera
11-Steve Flynn - Atheist
12-Chris Witchhunter - Sodom
13-Robb Reiner - Anvil
14-Bobby Jarzombek
15-Mark Zonder -Fates Warning

I agree with most people on your list, but I have to disagree about Dave Lombardo being placed in the honor corner. He is the only drummer who can play at the speed of Slayer and still GROOVE. A lot of people don't understand what the groove is...I guess it's a musician thing in a lot of ways. If you're looking for some metal with insane drumming (even more insane than standard metal drumming is) then check out Mastodon. Their drummer is fantastic. Hells yes to Gene Hoglan though. He deserves far more credit than he is given. Tesekkur ederim :)

My favorite drummer in metal is Tommy Buckley from Soilent Green. That guy is nuts. If you've never heard him, or just not paid much attention, you should definately check them out.

Thanks a lot for your comments:) When I first started to listen this kinda music, (metallica, Iron Maiden, Slayer etc.. mainstream bands, you know) I wasn't caring for drums. But when I first hear slayer, drums shocked me. I loved Dave Lombardo's style a lot. I have a special care for him now. He is first for me =D Btw, I couldn't listen Mastadon too much, But I will. I will give attention to them. Also I didn't hear about Soilent Green. But sure I will check them out too. Of course There are good drummers out of this list. If I found out I can add them there :))

Lars is a good instinctive drummer, he's just very sloppy. If you count along with the drum interlude in the middle of Battery, he comes in too early. Also, listening to some of the live stuff, he makes fills too long and comes in on the upbeat. He quickly fixes it most times though. I'm not a fan of Metallica's more recent stuff, so I can't really judge it.

Nice list, man! Other good drummers: Raymond Herrera (Fear Factory, ex-Brujeria) Nick Barker (Old Man's Child, ex-Dimmu Borgir, ex-Cradle of Filth) Txus DiFellatio (Mägo de Oz) Mike Portnoy (OSI, Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) Fernando Scarcella (Rata Blanca... though they aren't much of a metal band anymore) Nir Nakav (Salem) Dennis Leeflang (Bumblefoot, Sun Caged)

I can't catch you up guys :P Yes, nicko is a good drummer too. he has a great live performance i think. Also Lars is fine. His best performance in garage albums btw. MitsPSU has good points about him. Also without doubt Mike Portnoy is an insane one. But the reason i didn't add him here is i don't like Dream Theater, LTE too much. Thanks for comments and advises again. It will take some time to search those bands and drummers =D

dude, whether u like DT or not, uve gotta admit, it doesnt get much harder than drumming at random time signatures at 200bpm. that and polyrhythmic drumming.

Tomas Haake - Meshuggah - insane polyrhythmic groove, must be heard to be believed, INNOVATOR Gene Hoglan - SYL - AWE inspiring, best combo of hand and feet development in the business - maybe best metal drummer EVER - drumming on The New Black & Alien is beyond belief Chris Adler - Lamb of God - surgically precise, awesome kit sound, unique use of splash & accent cymbals, machine like in his accuracy - has only played around 10 years and you would never know it - incredible metal drummer Vinnie Paul - Ground breaking metal groove-master, drum kit on steroids sound on CD, what he lacks in flash makes up for in feel - brought groove back to metal Many other great players - these are guys off top of my head

I personally like John Longstreth and Jarzombek best. Longstreth because he's just uber fast and Jarzombek because he seems to pull off anything.

Jason Bittner - Shadows Fall is better then all of them

  • APE907

Jason Bittner sucks - even Dave Lombardo called him out this summer and publicly made statements that questioned Bittner's talent - Lombardo even had to publicly apologize since Bittner got his panties all up in a twist saying how badly his feelings were hurt that his idol would question his playing publicly. Claiming that Bittner is better than the list of drummers above shows your total lack of understanding of metal drumming. Please take up another instrument.

Any mentions for Blake Richardson (between the buried and me) or Alex Pelletier (despised icon)? Both have incredible precision, speed, understanding of polyrhythms and time signature changes, and ultimately they use the kit to accentuate the technical precision of their bands songs. I'm not really sure what the fuss with the Cryptopsy drummer is all about, he's fast but he's looser than a kings cross hooker - maybe thats the idea. Jarzombek is amazing. I haven't heard all the drummers mentioned but to be honest if you're not a drummer it's difficult to rate drummers on their talent and ability. You might like the bands they play for but how can you have any understanding of the difficulty of what they're playing?
