  • My Chemical Romance - Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys

    Nov 21 2010, 5:21

God, I hate My Chemical Romance. I have hated them for as long as they've been around. They're so whiny and terrible. And their fanbase is the WORST.

But then, WHAT'S THIS? Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)
THIS SONG IS PURE ROCK AND ROLL! IT'S SO AWESOME!
BUT IT'S BY MCR! WHAT THE HELL!? WHY DO I LOVE THIS SO MUCH?

Oh wait I know why. Because they have totally turned themselves around as a band. Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys is the most unexpected turnaround by any band ever.

Not to say that it's the most amazing thing ever. It's certainly not on my Top Ten Albums Of The Year list or anything like that. There are a few dud tracks, and some of the lyrics still take a turn more towards the old, whiny MCR that we all know and love (to hate). Plus, "The Only Hope For Me Is You" is a terrible song title. But most of the songs (especially those in the second half) are catchy, fun, and straight up rockin'. Much respect to those MCR guys for making a record that DOESN'T suck.

Sooo yeah, if you see an increasing playcount for My Chemical Romance on my Last.fm, don't hate me and de-friend me. I have not become an emo kid. Just havin' some fun.

Instead of having a #49, I have a 3-way tie for #47, followed by #50. So I'm just gonna say that Flobots is the one we're talking about here.
Anyway, I'd be pretty confused. Flobots is an awesome rap group with good views on politics/social issues, so if they hated me I wouldn't know why since we share views and stuff.

    33. What would you say if 42 or one of the members from 42 asked you out?
A two-way tie, but I'll go with Portugal. The Man. And it's weird cause just as I typed that, The Sun came up on my iTunes playlist.

    40. Which member from 31 do you want to see go solo? If 31 is only one artist, what would you do if they joined a group?
    The Germs

  • Recent Crazes

    Giu 20 2009, 8:00

It has been almost a year since my last journal entry here.
    So let's see...

-Pinkerton is my favorite Weezer album. Sue me.
-I love The Fratellis. So much.
-My most recent love is The Raconteurs. They're like the White Stripes but... dare I say, better? No. I can't say that quite yet. Plus, comparing two bands that are fronted by Jack White is criminal. Jack White is a god.
-I have been getting into 80s-90s rap more and more. I love Public Enemy. De La Soul is pretty awesome. NWA is far from my favorite, but I like 'em.
-The soundtracks to "REPO! The Genetic Opera" and "Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog" are both phenomenal, and I highly suggest that everyone go see both or at least listen to the songs.
-The Germs are awesome. I never imagined I'd be into hardcore punk, but I dig it.
    -I still love the Pixies.
  • The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

    Lug 9 2008, 23:59

    The Jesus and Mary Chain.
    Holy crap.
What can I say? Where can I start?

Psychocandy is a 40-minute pure noisefest. The almsot poppy lead melodies contrast directly with the static, the noises, the feedback, and the distorted guitars. But it's not just noise. It's organized noise. Every bit of static and every resounding reverb effect combines to create a masterpiece of music in every single track. THERE IS NOT ONE TERRIBLE SONG ON THIS ALBUM. The static-infested razor-blade guitar riffs hook into your mind and don't let go.

This album is mind-numbingly brilliant in every way, from the noisy opening track Just Like Honey to the brilliant Never Understand all the way to the climactic It's So Hard.

My favorite track on the album is either the aforementioned Just Like Honey, or the catastrophic My Little Underground.

    Next stop: Darklands.
  • The Ropes

    Lug 8 2008, 23:12

I've heard 6 songs from these peeps and I'm in love. There's the heavy guitar coupled with the soothing vocals, there's the pure new wave-iness, there's the (very) intriguing lyrics, and there's the slight techno influences. All of these features make me go crazy for this band.
It's a two-person band! Sharon Shy is on vocals and guitar, while "Toppy" plays the drums. I'm not quite sure of their relation to each other, besides the fact that they sound amazing together.
These two are the next White Stripes, I swear.
  • The Pixies - Complete B-Sides

    Giu 26 2008, 6:52

AMAZING. I love nearly every song on this album. 19 tracks!

Into the White is a wonderful song and I'm surprised it ended up a B-side.
