  • My first last.fm anniversary... (Well, almost... ;) )

    Feb 1 2007, 15:05

    Good afternoon!!

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well, keeping warm/cool (please delete as appropriate ;) ) etc...

Am currently listening to the album "Nowhere" by Ride (am on Track 1, "Seagull"). Spent some of yesterday listening to "Juggernaut Rides" by Swervedriver. Haven't finished listening to it yet, but enjoyed what I did hear... ("Duel" is amaaaazing!! I see the NME loved it so much they gave it the Single of the Week accolade a week before it was released! I read the sleevenotes yesterday, too... ;) And "Planes Over The Skyline" is certainly registering with the Audioscrobbler in my head... It's so infectious! Planes Over The Skylineeeee... )

It is not actually my first last.fm anniversary until tomorrow! Tomorrow will be my first last.fm birthday! But, I have a feeling I'll be too tired to write tomorrow - I have been feeling very tired recently... (Really tired! I have to do something about it - lots of things about it! Eat properly - I hear that bananas are good for energy? But I do not care for bananas - not really at all! Errgh... ;) ) So, I will write this now... (Is it 2nd February in Australasia now? Apologies if it is not... So I'm celebrating my birthday on the 2nd Feb in Australasia, which is indeed the correct day for me to celebrate? Oh, sigh... )

I thiiink my first ever last.fm song was "Satin Doll" by Hooverphonic! (I wanted my first song to be a song that I really really liked... ) My first last.fm album? Well, I'm guessing it was a Depeche Mode album... (Or, maybe not! I've a feeling it might have been the Bloc Party album "Silent Alarm"! My Uncle gave me this album to which to listen. I really like the song "Two More Years".)

My Uncle (who is a big music fan... Though we don't really have the same tastes. My Uncle does not care for Depeche Mode, and I think they are sensational, one of the most wonderful special amazing magnificent things to ever happen to the world of music! See what I mean? *sigh* ;) ) gave me a few other CDs to listen to around that time as well: I'm afraid I did not listen to the Babyshambles CD or The Strokes CD (yet! I'm sorry... I still have them! Who knows, those two acts may be doing well in my last.fm charts before one knows it... ;) ). I did listen to the Arctic Monkeys CD. I see that the Arctics have a song which features my name! It is called "Cigarette Smoker Fiona". Okay, it's not "Goddess Fiona" (which would have been a lil' better, guyssss... ;) ) but I guess I have to hear it first! I will have to listen to it one day.

I'm so very very pleased I signed up to this site! I can't imagine Internet without last.fm now, actually... I have been in correspondence with great people, and my music collection has certainly been enhanced as a result of this site.

And I think of the music of which I wasn't aware in February 2006: I had not heard of Slowdive! (Well, I had heard the one song, "Some Velvet Morning"... ) And now I listen to them incessantly!

So, to all the people behind this fine website, the people behind Audioscrobbler, etc... Very many thanks indeed! Thank you, thank you... :)

Many thanks to anyone who has read this,
    Best wishes to all,
    F xxx

PS. I want to be like my new Avatar, Shilpa Shetty! Someone who is classy and dignified and graceful... She is also so beautiful... I am very pleased she won "Celebrity Big Brother"! I have to work at being like her - I don't know about ever looking like her... *sniff* ;)
  • Sunday 'blues' and endless babble...

    Gen 28 2007, 18:56

Hello from Wales... This is Wales calling...

(Well, one person from Wales! Do I speak for the other millions who live here? Nuh-huh, I do NOT! Tss, the EGO here... *sigh* ;) )

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well, and keeping warm (or keeping cool, if in a hot country). I will shortly be huddling in front of the fire to watch the "Big Brother" final...

(I posted a journal entry on Friday/Saturday concerning "Big Brother", and S Club 7er Jo O'Meara. I wrote about some other things too: music! MUSIC JOURNAAAAL!! ;) I then deleted it! Because I didn't watch those notorious bullying scenes, and how could I possibly 'pontificate' - err, is that the right word?! - when I hadn't watched it?! So that journal entry has gone, gone, gone... )

(Isn't that a The Cure song? ;) I do like The Cure, and I haven't listened to them for quite a while now... )

(Just very briefly on Jo O'Meara, if I may! We're around the same age - well, I am older! By one year! Okay, I may not seem like it with my babbling here, sigh ;) - and I did warm to her after that VT on the first night, when she was with her dogs. I love dogs. :) I just think it's quite sad, that's all. She's apparently desperate for money, hence her reasons for going on the "BB" show - it appears the S Clubbers didn't do 'that' well financially... She seemed unhappy, 'bitter', and has some problems with her nerves. And now I am writing about Jo O'Meara all over again! Aaargh... )

(I did not watch "BB" throughout those bullying episodes. I wouldn't have wanted to see that.)

I have been feeling a little 'down' over these last few days. Ehh, I know I have nothing to feel down about (at all) but aargh, I have the moments, I act the Drama Queen, etccccc... Even the machine at the gym (not the elliptical trainer, the one without the moving arms) told me my fitness level was "low" (okay, so this is not an untruth, but! BUT!!!) - grrr!! How DARE it!!! Does it not know how I am feeling?!!!!

    *siiiiiiiiiigh*

I have been listening to some 'happy' songs, I guess. Well, "Feeling Okay" by Tom Hooker - this is an Italo Disco song, and I love it! (He looks rather handsome on his Connected Music pic... A little like Tony Hadley/Spandau Ballet maybe? So true, funny how it seeeems... ;) ) I prefer to listen to 'feel good' music when I do not, err, 'feel good'. I think it helps me. I think I've always been like this. I can't really listen to songs that are too sad/too depressing. I do like some music that one may term a little 'melancholic' I guess... (Am I just contradicting myself/babbling away here? Aaargh!)

And then there's When the Sun Hits! What did I do before I discovered that song, before I discovered Slowdive... :) That song is an absolute masterpiece of our times! End of! (Eeek, THAT little saying puts me in mind of a former "BB" contestant... ;) ) I just adore Slowdive (as my last.fm charts will attest), adore them, aDORE them... :) And I really like what I've heard of Mojave 3 too (my favourite song is My Life In Art ). How talented IS Neil Halstead? On the scale of 1 to 100, he must surely be up there, 'troubling' that big three digit number... ;)

I have just ordered the Swervedriver album (the Greatest Hits) - it was the song "Duel" that really cemented the decision for me... I have also ordered Nowhere. Am really looking forward to receiving them...

Would like an MP3 player - spent a little time looking at them recently. I have decided to wait and get a Microsoft Zune! They look amaziiiing... :) I toyed with getting the Sony pink Walkman thingie but I didn't... And then the Creative models! I've never had an iPod. I don't know, I'm sure they are fantastic - they confuse me for some reason? (It doesn't exactly take a lot to confuse me, sigh... ;) ) I think it started with the mp3/wma thing. I'm going to wait, and save my money (come onnnnn!!!) and get one of these Zune machines. I want to be sure I am doing the right thing. I have to be 100% about it. I get nervous about such purchases. Will the Zune one day be mine, or will I opt for another machine...

    (There's a cliffhanger! Heh... ;) )

I think I will leave it here,
Love and best wishes - many thanks to anyone who has read this,
    F xxx

PS. My favourite Spandau Ballet song - well, there's "True"... I also quite like "Chant No. 1".
PPS. My favourite Cure song is "Pictures of You"! Or "High"...
  • Dreams Burn Down (and Tiredness Takes Over ;) )

    Gen 16 2007, 15:54

    Hello!

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well, and keeping warm... (How I am coveting those duvets that they sell on the TV shopping channels... They look gorgeous! So snug... The thing is, I'd never want to get out of bed! I have enough trouble as it is! Eurk... Maybe I'd have to take the duvet with me? Forget taking an MP3 player/Sudoku book on the bus, I'd bring my cosy duvet with me! :) Did Björk do something like that once, or am I - probably - mistaken? Aaah, where was I... ;) )

(Oh, and if you happen to be in heat-baked Australia, please keep cool! It is HOT in Melbourne right now... I tried to stay up to watch Australian Open tennis - I didn't get 'that' far before sleep took over me... )

    Music...
I am STILL obsessed with Slowdive. Still. What did I do without them... (My Audioscrobbler was less busy. Heh. ;) ) That compilation "Like A Daydream" has changed my musical life! It has! I 'did' know of some of these bands before but I wasn't 'that' familiar with their music... And now I listen to them constantly. I want to buy their albums. I look for their lyrics on the Internet. (I love Dreams Burn Down by Ride. Well, I love Ride 'full stop' but I love this song, and the lyrics... I think I'm in love with the band too! You mean it isn't 1991 any more, and they don't look like that now? Aaah! I'm sure they still look very handsome, of course. :) I know that Andy Bell is in Oasis... To be honest, I don't pay 'that' much attention to Oasis - I do like some of their songs. Next time there's an Oasis vid on TV, I'll pay my full attention... )

("Acquiesce" got some rotation on Chart Show TV before Christmas. I quite like that song! We BELIEEEVE in each other... )

I love "Mercy Seat" by Ultra Vivid Scene. I also love the UVS song "Special One". (I have that on a compilation somewhere... The now-defunct "Select" magazine "Red Tape"? That is one AWESOME compilation. It's brilliant! Breath, it takes you away! Some of the songs on there: "Foi Na Cruz" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds! "Clean" by Depeche Mode! One of my favouritest fave DM songs, and there are a lot of favouritest favourites faves there!! :D "Insubstantial" by Pale Saints - that song got me into PS. I went and ordered the album on the strength of that song, and "The Comforts of Madness" is one of my favourite albums to this day! Masterpiece! I haven't heard the PS album "Slow Buildings" - is that what it is called? Excuse me here... I'm not sure if I'd like it without Ian Masters singing. Anyway, that is one AWESOME +++ compilation. It is. To think I gave my original copy away! What was I thinking... Brain, I kinda lost you there... ;) )

I have discovered podcasts on iTunes! (Okay, maybe I'm not as 'up-to-date' as some people here, I imagine... ;) ) My first podcast download? Stand up, Grammar Girl! I am incredibly sensitive about grammar/my grammar (I am) so stand up (or, 'download') Grammar Girl! (My grammar leaves a lot to be desired! It does, it does! Whaaa... )

I also downloaded a fitness mix by a DJ, Stevie was it? When I get this MP3 player, one day, I can put this mix on it and run like an Olympic standard athlete... (Hmm... Hmmm!! Think POSITIVE, please, woman!!) (I keep getting on the treadmill next to the really fit, running machine men! And I don't want to appear 'dreadful' next to them - hmmm - so I'll keep on running... I'll finish the treadmill exhausted, struggling for breath, and I felt sick the last time too, and without the energy to tackle many other machines but, errrm!! Errrm!!!) (Is there a 'Vocabulary Girl' on iTunes? Heeeelp... ;) ) I will get there one day, right? Err, right? It's one of my ambitions to run a marathon one day! Iiii can do it, and maybe DJ Stevie can help me... ;)

"Celebrity Big Brother" - this show is hideous. Dirk Benedict or not (I had a crush on him, probably still have a crush on him) I cannot watch this horrible, ghastly show. It would really upset me to watch right now. Jo O'Meara! Okay, I admittedly haven't really been watching recently, and couldn't bear to watch right now, but what happened? You were supposed to be this nice dog loving person, and now I read/hear all these things about you? It has put me right off listening to S Club 7! (Not that I exactly listened to them too much before, admittedly, but I do like some of their songs!) Goodness knows what impressions people are getting from some of the awful behaviour inside the house. What an example!

    What else...
(A Britney Spears song just appeared on the last.fm 'shoegaze' radio. Well, it's not "When The Sun Hits"... ;) )
Lots of love to everyone - many thanks to anyone who has read this,

  • Timewarp tales and some reality TV observations

    Gen 6 2007, 15:07

Hello! And a very Happy New Year to all the last.fm users and readers! I hope that 2007 will be a fantastic year. Health, happiness, love, laughter, all the good things in the world... :) Lots of good music! Lots and lots of good music...

(New Year's Resolutions still intact: 2! Yaaay!
New Year's Resolutions not intact: 1! But I have an excuse, whine! But there are no excuses... Be strong - neverrr agaaain!! Etc... ;) )

Music! I am still rather obsessed with shoegaze music! In my world, it is not 2007 but 1991... (There IS new music around? Wha-aaa-aaat?!! I have no idea what is popular right now you know. I saw Egg sing along to a song by The Killers on the "This Life" reunion special earlier this week. I have heard of The Killers, and heard some of their songs, but I could not sing along to a Killers song! In fact, I don't know if I'd recognise the lead singer Brandon Flowers if I saw him in the street... He could some and sit next to me and chances are I could not identify him. And The Killers are one of the biggest bands around, yes?) (Do I READ the "Q" magazine I buy every month?) (I blame this on quite a lot of things, you know! I need to listen to more 'music of today'! But I am becoming increasingly more 'crabby' with age. I am. ;) One band, who I will not name, not that they are likely to be reading, etc, who are very popular, just leave me, well, not 'cold'... I think they are very derivative. I just do NOT get it. They are just the band who are springing to my mind right now... And they have the rave reviews - I DO read the music reviews, then - and I think, uhhh? I am patently missing something! I am stuck in a timewarp, in an eighties/early nineties - with a touch of late nineties, too, I guess! - timewarp! Or maybe I am *whisper* growing 'out' of things somewhat... Yeah, something to contemplate... )

I am loving Ride! (I have written about Slowdive lots, and I am still absolutely loving them to pieces... How gorgeous is the song Brighter? And then there's "Celia's Dream"... I love both of the "Just for a Day"/"Souvlaki" albums. Love them! And I'm going to investigate Mojave 3 too. I'm looking forward to it... ) I have played the song "Taste" over and over again the last few days... (My Audioscrobbler rolls its eyes, adopts the bored pose - again?!! ;) ) I saw the video to this song on one of the vintage "Chart Show" repeats (what a GENIUS idea to show "Chart Show" repeats! An exceptional, amazing idea!) and that has kinda triggered my love affair with this song somewhat. To think I didn't really like Ride when I first heard them (it was "Leave Them All Behind", and I did not like the song... And now I just can't get enough.) (Oooh! Depeche Mode! Well, I just can't get enough of DM! Indeed! ;) ).

Then there's Chapterhouse. I saw the video to their song "Mesmerise" on YouTube this week. I kinda regretted having eaten too much before watching it. (My fault, not their fault! All the water - the video is filmed in a pool, with the band playing in a swimming pool, and some to my eyes "This Life"-style camera angles... I'm not the best sea-traveller anyway, and to see all that water like that... ;) ) I have also been playing a lot of Chapterhouse this week. (The "Whirlpool" album is really good! Really good... )

Who else? Watching singing reality show "Just The Two Of Us" has made me want to look like Sarah Brightman! She is very beautiful... (I would also like to sing like Sarah Brightman. ;) Which should I ask for first? I musn't be 'greedy', you know... ) I know reality TV doesn't 'always' get the best publicity (and I understand why - I can't stand a lot of it) but this show has made me want to listen to Sarah Brightman - would I have considered listening to her music before? I listened to some of an Andrea Bocelli album just before Christmas. So I 'am' listening to different music, then... :)

Also on this reality show: Jocelyn Brown is competing with an actor from "EastEnders" (a show I haven't watched for many years). They sang the song "Always There" last night. "Always There"! (Again, 1991... ) How much do I love this song? I love it thiiiiiis much! (And how I wish I had the vocabulary of a "Q" journalist, sigh... )

Jo O'Meara (former S Club 7) and Ian "H" Watkins (former Steps) (and Leo Sayer) (and Donny Tourette from the band Towers of London - I'd not really heard of them before, oh no, it's Lil' Miss Timewarp here) are over on "Celebrity Big Brother". (Although Mr. Tourette has quit, not wanting to be a servant to Jade Goody and her family. He jumped over the compound wall, away from that house forever... ) I warmed to Jo lots after her opening VT - she loves dogs (like me), she seemed/seems 'nice'... (And I can imagine it's tough going from a global pop band like that to, well, 'normality'? Whatever 'that' is... ) Ian Watkins seems like a nice guy too, ditto Leo Sayer (who seems very chirpy - a very positive guy! That's nice to see... ). But I haven't been watching it that much. Not really! Honestly... ;)

(I wasn't so much of a Steps person - I did love their song "Heartbeat" though! I might have a look for the video on YouTube later! That Christmas theme - awww... But S Club were something of a pop favourite of mine... I even, errm, watched their TV show a little bit! I don't think I watched it that much... )

Now I'm going to 'reach' for the post button (or maybe 'preview'? Or maybe I should 'reach' for the delete button? Aargh!). Many thanks to anyone who has read this (wow... You deserve medals, flowers, chocolates, everything... :) ) and best wishes to all,
    F xxx

PS. That's a great song! REACH for the stars!! Climb every mountain higher...
PPS. Now, 'reach' for that post button woman...
  • "TOTP"/babble/shoegaze music/babble etc...

    Dic 26 2006, 14:25

    Hello!!

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well! As Noddy Holder (? It IS him? Of course it is! It's not another member of Slade, is it? My mind is going?!! Aaargh!) sings, It's Christmaaaas!!!

So, I've eaten waaay too much (why do Pringles have to be so addictive? Why is it that my willpower is having a 'break' right now?) and I've cried at the TV ("Strictly Come Dancing", "Casualty", "Deal or No Deal"... "Top of the Pops"! Well, "TOTP" didn't make me cry... Uhm, nope! I found that I quite liked some of the songs! Okay, close bracket first)

"TOTP"! I love "Monster" by The Automatic. (I just think it's so infectious! It never fails to make me smile... ) (On topic of smiling: Lily Allen! And that looks to be a nice dress that she's wearing in her 'Connected Music' picture.) Then there's "From Paris to Berlin" by Infernal (that has to be one of my favourite songs of the year! I just have to say: I love it... ;) ) and "SOS" by Rihanna.

I pulled a rather unfestive face when possibly my least favourite band of all time came on (though they were not on for long) (tsss, my Christmas spirit was also taking a 'break' at that moment it seemed... ) and I switched over before the end. (And I will not drone on about how the 'magic' of the Christmas No. 1 has been 'destroyed' by these reality shows! No NO! Congratulations to Leona who won "X Factor" - she seems like a very nice girl and is very talented and I wish her well. And I'm pleased that these shows help find talent... I hope her talent is nurtured properly, and she doesn't bring out some sloppy hastily put together covers fest album in the next couple of months. I hope that Mr. Cowell and co. will look after her. I didn't watch "X Factor" this year - it was all about "Strictly Come Dancing"... I don't think I want to watch any more of these "X Factor"/"Idol" shows actually. I really, truly don't. No way! It's all so, so... )

    (Shut UP. It's Christmaaaaas!!!)

I am going to look at Amazon for CDs and an MP3 player... I do not know which MP3 player I want! I do not want one which switches itself off (my first player) or crashes altogether while I am out of the country (my second player)! Maybe I'll be third time lucky, aaah... ;) I'm thinking about getting a 'less expensive' MP3 player and spending more money on CDs! Aaah, we'll seeee...

I cannot stop listening to Slowdive. I think, I think... Are they... Is this too premature or... Are they my favouritebandever?!!! Really? I thought Depeche Mode would be my favourite band ever, for ever! I remember hearing "Black Celebration" for the first time which cemented any possible doubts. That album is (in my opinion) a masterpiece! Then a lovely friend put a Wolfsheim song on a compilation CD for me (the song was "Tender Days") and I had a second favourite band ever! (DM #1, I think... Then Wolfsheim, Nummer Zwei!)

But Slowdive... I really cannot seem to stop listening to them. It all started after I bought the "Like a Daydream" (Best of Shoegaze) compilation. I had liked shoegaze music before and I didn't put 'that' much thought into buying this compilation... But wow. Hello, revelation! "When The Sun Hits" just never, ever fails to 'move' me (and I've played it about a gazillion times!). I love both "Just For A Day" and "Souvlaki" albums. I love them. Absolutely love them...

So "When The Sun Hits" is my favourite song on this compilation... But there is also "Pearl" by Chapterhouse! I have loved this song since I first heard it a few years ago... (Def. one of my favourite songs of all time!) I have been playing the "Whirlpool" album again... And Ride! Then there's Lush, Pale Saints (these two bands were big favourites of mine and remain big favourites of mine)...

I love "Son of Mustang Ford" by Swervedriver. (I would really like to hear some more of their music. It's quite a 'rocky' song. It doesn't sound like any of the other songs on the compilation album... ) And I also like "Over My Head" by Blind Mr. Jones. I like a lot of the other songs too...

I am changing? DO I have a new favourite genre of music?!! What's happening here... I have found myself wanting to read about these bands, this music...

I just want to listen to this music over, and over, and OVER again... And I want to listen to more of this music! I want to keep on listening...

What does John Miles sing? "Music was my first loooove... "

(Maybe - definitely - oooh, nearly an Oasis album title! - it's time to end it - this entry! - here... )
Lots of love and best wishes to everyone - many thanks to anyone who has read this entry,
Best seasonal wishes and New Year wishes to all!
    (I love this website... :) )

  • Christmaaaas... (Chart Show, some all-time faves... )

    Dic 15 2006, 15:21

Ho-Ho-Ho-Hello... :) As the song goes, It's Christmaaaaas!!! (How rich MUST these Christmas songs have made Slade, Wizzard, etc?) (And I forget the other band names I wanted to use. Dear Santa, please help me with my memory... ;) ) It's Christmaaaaas...

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well. THIS last.fm user has been having a seriously lazy day!! But I intend to make up for it by going to the gym later! And I want to do some work with my new multi-language CD-Rom (101 languages! Really! It's amazing... ). Yes, I want to be fluent in 101 languages this time next year! (*THUD* *THUD* *THUD*) (When you think that my ENGLISH leaves a lot to be desired... *siiiigh* )

I see that I have a new #1 in my "Most Listened To... " songs on last.fm! This song is *dum dum dummmm* "When The Sun Hits" by Slowdive! Is this my favourite song of all time? :) I have played this song CONSTANTLY. I really don't seem to get sick of it. I think it is gorgeous. I ordered the Slowdive album "Just For A Day" on Amazon yesterday, along with a Christmas present for my brother... :) I do really like "Souvlaki" (it has really grown on me with repeated listens) but "When The Sun Hits" HAS to be my favourite song (with "Alison" in second place right now. Just fantastic. And this time next year, I'll be able to say "fantastic" in 101 different languages! ;) Aaaah... I love the whole 'mood' of the music, I love the way it makes me feel... ).

What other favourite songs do I have... I'm gonna do a list!! I'm gonna sit down and compile 'the' definitive list of my favourite songs EVER... :) I do think my last.fm chart is quite accurate... (The Captain Of Her Heart, Evelyn, Kinky Love, Pearl... ) What songs are coming to my mind as I type? I love "Time and Tide" by Basia. "I'm In Love With A German Film Star" by The Passions. "Together In Electric Dreams" by Moroder and Oakey. (And had I been a teenager in the early eighties, I'd have had THE biggest crush on Phil Oakey! Gorgeous gorgeous man ahemmm!!) Then you've got my old favourites - DM, Wolfsheim, etcetera... :)

Another song! "Slave To Love" by Bryan Ferry! I could go on here all day, through Christmas, through to next Christmas (with my ENHANCED linguistic skills of course... ;) ). I think I'll do a list!! I think I'll do a list... ;)

I LOVE "The Chart Show" repeats on Sky right now (admittedly I have only seen one thus far! But I loved it! And I love the fact that it is being repeated! If anyone from The Vault is reading: THANK YOU!! Thank you... :) ). And I love "The Chart Show" episodes that are on YouTube too!!

The repeat on The Vault yesterday (that I saw) was from 1991. The number one song was "I Wanna Sex You Up" by Color Me Badd. (I bought that! I bought it on cassette single in Swansea... :) ) (I, me, contributed to the chart success of this song! Yeahhhh... ;) ) (My favourite Color Me Badd song was "I Adore Mi Amor". Because I was a big incurable soppy romantic even then. ;) Sigh... ) I squealed with delight (or something like that!) when "Gypsy Woman" by Crystal Waters topped the dance chart, and got an airing! How I sang along to this song - la da dee, la di daaa... (Or whatever is correct - apologies Crystal/all behind song!) (I bought that song too!! On my way home from school one day... ) I did seem to like the music of 1991, actually, when I think about it... (But if I think about it too much I will find something I dislike, I am sure, so it's best not to think 'too' much, as always... ;) ) I loved "Touch Me" by Cathy Dennis as well. I loved her red hair. I love red hair... (I have been a redhead, but I am a natural brunette. And I don't know if I'll colour my hair again. Ahmm, who knows... )

So many songs: "Baby Baby" by Amy Grant. (Isn't that video cute? Isn't the puppy in that video cute? Awwww!) I am really looking forward to the next "Chart Show"! (I hope it's from the early nineties again. No, I musn't be like that. I'm just happy to see it again. It's just not the SAME these days... )

    *WHIIIIIINE*

Many thanks to anyone who has read this,
Love and best wishes and the happiest of holidays to all!

PS. My favourite Eurovision entry of this year? It HAS to be... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLk_UcmFh5k (It cheered me up so very much... :) It's making me smile now! Can I put THIS in my "Favourite All-time" list... ;) )

    Dic 4 2006, 14:58

    Hello!!

(I NEED to think of some interesting ways of saying "Hello"... ;) Olleh? Olleh!! Ciao, bonjour, yo, YO, hiiiiii... *drawl* ;) )

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well, and keeping warm. (Or if in a warm climate - keeping cool!) It's been rather cold here. And windy!! And rainy...

So, it's nearly Christmas, and then 2007! Wow... Where DOES that time go. This year has really gone like a flash for me - zzzap. I cannot believe how quickly it has gone. 2007! And I'm going to make some New Year's Resolutions, ah yes!! :D (Whether I'll actually stick to them is another thing POSITIVE THINKING of course I will stick to them YES!!)

A few NYRs, off the top of my head...

    (In no particular order)

    1. I will give up Diet Coke (finally! I will! I've promised... ;) )
    2. I will get fitter, look better...
    3. I will not spend so much time on the Internet... *blush*
    4. I will not let Noel Edmonds/"Deal or No Deal" irritate me so much (whyyyy do I watch it then, huh? Huh?! No way could I ever be a contestant on that show. I think I might freak out. That could be SOME viewing though, I guess... *sigh* ;) ). I'm sure Noel is a nice guy and I know he has to 'sell' the show... (Again, just don't watch it, woman... )

(There are more 'serious' ones but this is SUPPOSED to be a MUSIC journal lalaaa and I go and write about everything BUT music as PER usual... )

Music, then!! I had fun watching some You Tube videos yesterday. Inner City - "Good Life" and "Big Fun". I cannot believe these songs are almost 20 years old! (Again, that time, it goes so quickly... ) "Good Life" is so infectious, and I love the video too. Paris (I'm 99.9% sure that is the singer's name, I apologise if it isn't) looks so happy as she dances around London. "Big Fun" - I loved this song when I first heard it! In 198*gulp*8 or whenever it was! I have it on a "Now" compilation album actually... I have an Inner City compilation album, but those are the two songs that I really love. Those are my favourites... (As Mr. Bruce Forsyth might say... ;) )

On the topic of the show that Mr. Forsyth presents ("Strictly Come Dancing") I really liked the music to which Emma Bunton and Darren Bennett danced their Paso Doble. It was by Bond - I'm afraid I can't recall the name of the track.

I am loving some of the music on this show. I didn't think I cared for Eurthymics so much (sorry... ) but watching Louisa and Vincent dance their Tango to "Sweet Dreams" a couple of weeks ago has made me put their Greatest Hits album on my Amazon Wish List. It's made me realise that there are a few other Eurthymics (why do I always look after spelling, huh? ;) ) songs I like. ("Here Comes The Rain Again" - quite an appropriate song for today, yesterday, the day before, the last week... ) (My chances of getting a job with the Welsh Tourist Board: 0.000.00000%... ;) )

More You Tube - I've mentioned "Big Fun" by Inner City and that leads me to the Stock/Aitken/Waterman act Big Fun! I have this crazy kind of loooove for the song "Can't Shake The Feeling". It is easily one of my favourite SAW songs ever! (Possibly second! I think my favourite would be "Say I'm Your Number One" by Princess ) I was hollering along to this song yesterday (chances of ever getting a record contract: yes, we're talking 'bout those zeroes again... *sigh* ;) ). I love it! I really love it! And I think I want to get that SAW "Gold" album! (And I HATED SAW music when I was growing up!! Heeeeelp... ;) )

(Arctic Monkeys have the album of the year, according to "Q" magazine. I see the Monkeys have a song called "Cigarette Smoker Fiona". Well, it's not often I see my name in song titles... I trust it is a beautiful, tender, breathtaking love song!! Ehh, maybe I'll have to listen to it... ;) I do like the Arctic Monkeys songs I've heard. I have heard the album - I'll have to listen to it again.)

I think this must be it...
Many thanks (and medals!) to anyone who has read this,
Lots of love and best wishes to all,

  • Nostalgia (80s music TV)/sensitivity/babble, ETC... ;)

    Nov 25 2006, 14:50

    Hello, hello...

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well. :) And keeping warm... (Or, if in warm country: keeping cool!)

It's been raining like crazy here: these intermittent heavy showers... It's been like this for about a week now. I will have to 'dodge' them shortly... ;) (The 'drowned rat' look does not suit me!! I'm afraid I do not have the looks to carry that look off!! And then, the colds!! No-NO... ) (Just looking across to my Avatar - what could the girl in my Avatar be drinking? It looks like a blackcurrant drink... Well, SHE is looking after herself. ;) I need to follow her lead! Oh yes... )

Music!! Two CDs came through the post for me today!! "Souvlaki" by Slowdive. I am obsessed with "When The Sun Hits" - I've listened to it so many times this week. It's gorgeous - it's such a dreamy, special song. I've listened to "Souvlaki" and I certainly like it, though "When The Sun Hits" is still my favourite song... (As of time of entry: 14:22 GMT, Saturday 25 November 2006. ;) But it will take some beating as my number one song. It's just gorgeous... )

(I wish I could describe music 'properly', you know. I wish I had that talent. I actually did a handful of album reviews for a local newspaper - this was a while ago now, a long while ago! And I was so critical of one album. I wouldn't be like that now. I'd think about the persons behind the album, who've worked so hard, who feel so strongly about their project, sensitive people, and for me, me, to go and strike with a big caustic pen? I wouldn't do that. Not that the artistes concerned would be reading that newspaper, but that's not the point! I wouldn't want to upset them in any way... I am extremely sensitive myself, and I'd hate to think of upsetting anyone else. I know. What a loss I have been to the world of journalism, eh... *sigh* ;) )

(I did actually feel quite bad after that review, and I did 'tone it down' for the other reviews.)

(Where was I? Ehh, the usual babble... )

(Music and words!! To have those descriptive qualities. I wish I could have those qualities, and I have a lot of admiration for those who do. :) I wish I could feel confident, comfortable with words. Aaah, it's time to move onnnn... :) )

The other CD I ordered (a 4AD compilation album) actually had the CD missing from the case. So I'll have to send that back.

I am a big lover of 80s music and I was so happy to come across this on You Tube yesterday!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZs3nvik7xY

A "Chart Show" special from 1989! How much did I enjoy this? To the person who uploaded this: thank YOU! May you have so much happiness, the best Christmas ever, etc etc etc!! :)

I loved "The Chart Show". It just isn't the SAME nowadays, whine...

I really enjoyed watching that. The Dance/Indie/Rock charts from 1989... (Soul II Soul... Stone Roses! Maybe I should get their debut album - I've heard how seminal it is. I did like that song. I love One.)

"Ride on Time" by Black Box - I know it wasn't really the singer (Katrin something?) singing but wow, what a voice... (What a larynx one must have to sing like THAT!)

Milli Vanilli - I really liked Milli Vanilli. It makes me so sad to think of them. I remember watching a TV show about them, and the tragedy of the suicide (please forgive me, I am not sure of the name right now) at the end. Such beautiful men...

I did notice some grammatical/spelling errors (somehow, with my eyesight not being so great right now) with the show (and I know my own grammar is FAR from perfect... ).

What happened to the band And Why Not?. And Sydney Youngblood...

Jason Donovan - did not like the song at the time, my nostalgic self seems to love it now!! I sang along passionately yesterday... *blush* ;)

I think this must be it...
Many thanks to anyone who has read this (you deserve a medal, presented by the person of your choice ;) )
Lots of love and best wishes to all,

  • Shoegazing, "This Life", where DOES the time go, etc... ;)

    Nov 17 2006, 16:35

    Hello there...

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are well, and keeping warm... (Or keeping cool, if one lives in a warm place!)

I am feeling quite tired!! Gosh, I need more stamina you know... What is good for energy? A diet of Lucozade and bananas? ;) (Ugh... I am not a banana fan!! I have never cared for them you know... ) An energetic dance to some energetic music!! I was looking at dance DVDs on Amazon a few days ago... I would love to be able to dance... To have that rhythm!! Oh, yes!! And I was looking at some salsa CDs yesterday too!! (That is a whole other thing, yes? Sí? ;) ) Is there a salsa radio station on last.fm I wonder... I will have to have a look!!

Music: I have ordered a CD called "Like a Daydream" - it's a 'Best of Shoegaze' compilation. Well... (I also ordered a Paul McKenna book - I tell you, there is gonna be a NEW RosaQ!! ;) And I had to make up my order so I that qualified for free shipping... I was incredibly tempted by the "Deal or No Deal" DVD but thought, no!! I opted for the CD... ;) )

I wasn't into this genre of music at the time. It was the early nineties, so I was just entering my teens/in my early teens. I don't think I know THAT much about it... I love Pale Saints (a shoegazing band? Please forgive any stupidity from me... PS are on this compilation - one of my favourite bands ever!!), Lush (Miki Berenyi's hair!! Again, I have to say: how cool... ;) ), Chapterhouse (I must listen to their "Whirlpool" CD again!! I got it on eBay a little while ago - I didn't pay as much for it as some people did. I saw the CD go for over £40 on one occasion... Anyway, I got the CD, and not so long later saw that the CD had been reissued, with bonus tracks, on Amazon! I hope it's been doing well. :) I'll have to have a look, but better not spend TOO long looking on Amazon!! Yelp... *gulp* ;) )... Who else? I have a Ride album (I didn't like "Leave Them All Behind" at all when I first heard it, but it really grew on me, to such an extent that I used to play it quite a lot!), I have My Bloody Valentine albums in my collection...

I am looking forward to hearing this CD. :) But how I have to curb my spending... (Maybe Paul McKenna will help me? Gosh, hasn't he done enough? Isn't the man busy enough? ;) I remember his hypnotherapy show on ITV aaaages ago... It was a long time ago, wasn't it? I would have been too scared to go in for anything like that. I have been hypnotised before, though. Ohhh woman MUSIC... )

    Other music? Ooooh...

Am enjoying the "This Life" repeats on the BBC. (I can't WAIT for this special reunion show) It's interesting to reminded of the music of the time too. This was the mid 90s, Britpop time!! Not that "Spin Spin Sugar" by Sneaker Pimps was a Britpop song but how infectious... Spin Spin Sugaaaar... ;)

Cannot believe that "This Life" was TEN years ago!! Ten ten!! 10, zehn, ten, ten, TEN!! Ten!!!!! (You get my point, huh? ;) ) I think I am appreciating it more now that I am older and (uhm) wiser... ;) (Anna was my favourite character. Oh, I can't WAIT to see what has happened in those ten TEN TENNNNN!!! years... )

I think this must be it - many thanks to anyone who has read this,
Lots of love and best wishes - lovely weekend wishes to all,
    F xxx
  • Sunday musings... (I guess)

    Nov 12 2006, 19:23

    Hello!!

I hope that all the last.fm users and readers are doing well. :) It's Sunday (well, I think it's Monday in Australia/New Zealand etc... But I am not in Australia/New Zealand etc!! Oh, woman... *sigh* ;) ) and it's dark outside and I am wondering what music to listen to right now!! I don't know... I have a stash of CDs next to me, and 900+ songs on the computer, but I'm thinking about it... Maybe I don't want to listen to music after all? Maybe I just want to Enjoy the Silence... ;) (Oooh, I saw the DM Greatest Hits album advertised at the gym just now!! Is this an album that simply belongs in my collection? I have the other DM Greatest Hits albums. And I have the DM video DVD, which I have not watched for a long time, too long!! I would like to see Depeche Mode live one day. Oooh, I would like that, so very much indeed... But I would faint or something, and spend the duration of the concert having some kind of medical attention!! ;) Sigh... )

The last album I bought was by a band called Silent Circle. It's 80s synthpop - it's bouncy and happy, and makes me think of beer gardens, where everyone is having a nice time and is happy and there's a nice 'glowy' atmosphere... :) I've had one of their songs on the brain for the last few days - Stop The Rain In The Night!!

I see that the last.fm charts are "updating regularly" - is this more than once a week? I thiiink so... (But I do not trust myself!! Aaah... :) ) There are three acts in contention for the COVETED #1 spot in my overall charts... ;)

(Forget Grammys, Brit Awards, "Q" Awards, MTV Awards... To be the top, THE top of the very one and only RosaQ charts is THE ultimate accolade for a performer!! Again: oh, womaaaan!! Maybe NOT, you knoooow... ;) )

Wolfsheim #1, DM #2 and a-ha #3... That's currently Gold to Germany, Silver to United Kingdom and Bronze to Norway!! And I get to present those medals, la laaa!! (I would faint presenting Morten Harket with anything, you knooooooooow!!! Oh shut up shut up shut UP... ;) )

The music at the gym again: I did not care for it!! I'm sorry, but I think that a workout requires dance music!! One cannot work out properly to ballads!! No no NO!! It has to be fast music, and motivating, and you have to 'really' get into it... I am still looking to get an MP3 player - maybe I should get one of those sports MP3 players? I think I'd like a little pink model... :)

What other music is good for an exercise soundtrack... Maybe something like Ace Of Spades? Or something by Metallica... That might be interesting, actually... What do you think? ;)

I do like that Scissor Sisters song "I Don't Feel Like Dancing". I wasn't too sure about it at first but it has grown on me... (Ray and Camilla danced their samba to this song on "Strictly Come Dancing" yesterday, and got knocked out!! They were great - it's really too bad... ) My favourite Scissor Sisters song is "Mary". Easily!! Eeeeeasily!! ;) That song actually moved me to tears (of emotion!) on one occasion.

"The X Factor", which I am not watching, but I am, errm, kinda, sorta, even though I can't stand it, etc, etc, etc: how sweet is that little Ray? (Note to self: he's EIGHTEEN. Would he LIKE me writing about him like this? Hssssh!!) He is so sweet looking, awww!! I wouldn't want to say anything negative to him ever ever: he's just so sweet looking!! (SHUT UP!!) (Jobs I will never have, part 5678.1: a judge on a reality show talent panel.) Does the rocker guy really want to win this show, incidentally? Does he really want to be lumbered with the garbage that the winner has to sing? I know, I know, as Lush sang once, I've been here before... :)

(On the topic of Lush: I wonder what Miki Berenyi is doing now. I loved her bright red hair. I did entertaine the idea of dyeing my hair that colour once, many years ago now... Hmmm... I really liked Lush. :) )

Many thanks to anyone who has read this,
Lots of love and best wishes,
