    I hear it's every bit as insane as his other Beethoven but a lot more heavily inflected, probably because he could afford more rehearsal time with those guys compared to the usual pickup stuff he had

    Posted that sort of in jest after reading your Carlos quote. As much as I love his interpretations, his father Erich always manages to surprise me with his untraditional tempi and rhythmic energy that have never been bested. Every recording seems to have this boundless sense of spontaneous drama. Tightrope walk over the Grand Canyon filled with sharks and gators.
