The other day my friend kept trying to convince me to go see this band Lotus. After some convincing I decided to go see this show, and was pleasantly surprised. I went with a group of friends to go see them at Terminal 5 in NYC. The show turned out to be one of the best that I have been to in a while. I would describe Lotus as a trippy jam band although they describe their sound as mix between electronic dance music and instrumental post-rock. "For those awaiting a concert experience with the dynamics of a rock band, the dance inducing rhythms of club music, and the sophistication of modern electronica, an unlikely musical alternative has arrived in the form of Lotus." Their latest album, Copy Paste Repeat: Lotus Remixed was a huge success and included hits such as Hammerstrike and Greet the Mind. Lotus consists of five band members that use their musical abilities to blend sounds of electro, house, funk, and post-rock. The band is Chicago based an tours mostly through the United States, Canada, and Japan. They will be playing in Philadelphia at the Electric Factory on [event=]December 21st[/event]. Lotus puts on an amazing live show. Their lighting effects along with their down tempo rhythms and strong melodies makes for quite the experience. They have what looks like a set of hedge stones in the back of their stage that lights up and changes colors and patterns throughout the show. They also have a vast array of other lighting techniques that can be mind blowing. Also the crowd at the show was very chill. It was quite common to see people with dread locks and people dressed in tie dye t-shirts. Much like a disco biscuit show their seemed to be a sense of community and love in the air. Everyone seemed to look out for each other, and meeting new friends happened with great ease. Overall Lotus is a great band that plays great shows. Lotus shows are definitely something worth experiencing.
