well, so, CABF08 asked me a journal to talk a little about some bands/artists, and, you know, I love to talk/write about music I list to, altought my english is a total mess, terrible... I hope you can understand me the same. I'll try to do my best, I'll promise.
So, let's go!è_é
I want to start with stellastarr*
and The Dead 60's
: two "young", new, bands of that we call the new new wave generation (the Interpol
's stream, just to explain you, but this bands are far from Interpol's sound, anyway...). A mix of indie rock and post-punk resonation, nice and streamable in many ways.
They have just one or two albums out at the moment.
Maybe I prefer the Stellastarr*, their music is more "dramatic" in some ways and their song have a nice, ariose, atmosphere.A Certain Ratio
: yeah, this is really post-punk. A group formed in late 70's with a sound near to the Warsaw
, quite acid and heavy, not too easy-listening.
They relased a lots of albums untill the 90's, I believe, with some electronic contaminations.
I'm not totally fond about them, but, yeah, there's something good as well. The Gun Club
: one of that lovely groups coming from the USA in the first 80's. they mixed a lots of styles, between punk, rock, something blues, to create a really powerful, good, kind of music. Their most famous album is Fire of Love
that contains some hits like She's Like Heroin to Me
and Sex beat
, both full of energy and rythm, a good point to start with this band.
another good album is Miami
: weeeeell, one of my favourite band, I have to admit!XD aw!*_*
Dalis Car is a project by Mick Karn
's bassist) and Peter Murphy
' singer). after the brake up of their first band, Murphy and Karn started the Dalis Car project but soon they found that is too hard work togheter (well... anyway I know that they don't work really togheter, the music and the singing part were recorded in two different times and then mixed up... ._. I don't know why, but I'm quite sure Pete and Mick are a little mad in a good way, so it's ok!XD) and the album (The Waking Hour
) turned to be a commercial flop, so they ended the project. Well, it's a pity in my own opinion. I adore their album, it has got a great and unique sound.
Can you try to imagine something near to the Japan
's style, but a little more mystical, more pretentius -pretentius in a good way, you know-, with a deep croon and really inspired lyrics.
Anyway I adore Murphy's voice so... (L)*___*
they relased two singles: His Box
and The Judgement Is The Mirror
, both stunning songs in my opinion, aww!*_*Tones on Tail
: the side prroject of the Bauhaus
's guitarist, Daniel Ash
(oh, Danny!*__*) with Kevin Haskins
at the drum, of course.
the style is new wave/synth-pop, with dark feelings and sounds, and they have a couple of really famous songs as Christian Says
and Movement Of Fear
, and this last seems to be a kind of accuse from Ash to Murphy for I don't know what reason (well, something as "I'm prettier than you", I suppose!XD).
A nice group, anyway!The Curch
: yeaaah, a really nice band from the Australia! They were really into the new wave stream after a period with neo-psychedelic influences in the late 70's , and have some great tracks as Under the Milkyway
. I find The Church really lovable and sweet and a pleasure to list to. Nice.Josh Ritter
: josh was a really classic singer-songwriter, a sorta of less melancholic Leonard Cohen
. His music is a good mixture of alt-country and folk/indie, peaceful and intimate, perfomed with simple and natural instruments.
My favourite Josh's song is Girl In The War
, a good example of his style and poetics. Nice to list to in a calm, grey, day.Classix Nouveaux
: well... what can I say?? .__. It was my last birthday when I found this band. I was in a bookshop with my sister Envie, and we're looking at a book about the best album covers of the new wave era, and one CN's cd comes up. We cried "Ohhhh, mygod, wtf? It's soooo new wave!!" and we searched something... and started to list!Sob!
Classix Nouveaux are a sorta of new romantic/new wave/synt-pop/pseudo-goth band (but their known as new romantic the most) and they had a lots of albums that went quite good in the west Europa. I don't know why.
To be honest CN aren't musically so great XDDD but there's a lots of their stuff that is funny and I like, as Never Never Comes
or their major, dance, hit Is It A Dream
! Really 80's!*_* yeahyeah!
After the brake up of the group the singer, Sal Solo
started is solo career and after a trip to San Damiano's, an Italian little twon that I visited, sigh, he became a sorta of christian rock artist. .__. I don't know more.
But CN are nice, believe me. If you like the genre you can try their album La Verité
that's all folks!XDD
Hope you find this usefull in some ways!._.
