I haven't seen you in awhile. You doing alright?

Hey man. I gave Avenged Sevenfold a few listens and while it's not bad, it's left me scratching my head because it doesn't sound like metal at all to me. I approached it as a metal band, but it sounds more akin to pop-punk or something like that (again, sorry if that sounds insulting). I think I have to adjust my expectations...knowing that Portnoy was playing for them for awhile kind of tempered them. Anyway, which Avenged Sevenfold album did you recommend?

Right, I'll pick up AJfA next, then Kill 'Em All, then The Black Album, then Death Magnetic (since I hear that's their comeback album). Thanks for the suggestions! By the way, I'll check out that Opeth album too, but I want to get more acquainted with the one I own (Still Life) before branching out.

Hey dude, I gave Ride the Lightning a listen. Holy crap! It just blew me away--I think it might be one of the top 10 metal albums I've ever heard. Certainly had much more of an impact on me than Master of Puppets as a whole, though the title track of MoP is still my favorite Metallica song. Given that I like their aggressiveness on Ride the Lightning, should I go backward to Kill 'Em All or forward to ...And Justice for All?

Still Life is probably awesome. I love some of the riffs, and when the vocalist sings clean, it's great. Also, the album has great atmosphere, and while I haven't read all of the lyrics yet, the ones I have read are extremely effective. My guess is it's a grower for someone like me who just isn't quite accustomed to the style. I'll definitely check out that album you suggested though...thanks!

Haha, sorry I haven't replied. I've been out the past week. Yeah, I listen to one Opeth CD...and I still don't get it. But I'm trying. One day, I may learn to appreciate their music. Right now, I find it nearly impossible to get past the vocals.

Alright, so I finally gave Metallica a fair shot with Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. RtL did nothing for me the first listen (I'm sure it's a grower), but Master of Puppets is one of the most epic things I've ever heard. Thanks for helping introduce me to this great band.

Hey, man! Good to see you here! You have no Coltrane music in your history. The irony makes me LOL.

The dearth of songs is due to this being a new profile, the last one aptly named OddCole
