A friend of mine saw Megadeth last year and he said Mustaine is a absolute shredder. And you'll be seeing Slayer to boot. Those guys are insane musicians too.

Have you heard Hull Sole Lord yet? Pretty good heavy, sludgy rock. You might like.

Yeah I've never seen or heard about any song limits. Sometimes when I'm itching for something new, I'll listen to a good bands' radio station to see if anything I've never heard before pops up. I've actually discovered a lot of bands that way.

Go With Brother were some buddies of mine's band. I upload a crappy live performance of theirs here on last.fm as an experiment just to see what would happen. To my surprise their their similar artists are pretty kick ass. I just go to their page and press "play GWB radio" usually when I can't decide I what to listen to.

I couldn't believe my luck when Nick Cave played a little while back and he was supported by Neko Case AND Calexico! At the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The following night I saw them again at a pub in the city! It must have been 4 or 5 years ago. Pretty incredible.

    Luglio 2009
  • beanandgone

Yeah such haunting sounds from The Handsome Family. I got to see them about a year ago ~ hilarious stories too. Live at Schuba's Tavern is a great album but The Snow White Diner is my favourite song. I see you're listening to Neko Case now ~ incredible.

#1 gets 100 points, #2 gets 99 points .... #100 gets 1 point. The song with the most points at the end gets #1 etc, etc. :P

Thanks for Karivool. I've been hearing a lot of good feedback about that album but have yet to check it out as well as the others you mentioned. I see you've been listening to The Lonely Island album. It's friggin' hilarious. A Textbook Tragedy just released a 5 song ep called Rain City State Of Mind that fucking owns. I can send it to you if you want. Others I've been enjoying are the new Poison the Well-The Tropic Rot, The Number Twelve Looks Like You-Worse Than Alone (their drummer Jon Karel is insane), Gifts from Enola-From Fathoms (best instrumental album this year so far) and dredg-The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion. Let me know if you're interested in anything. Cheers!

Amen to the new last.fm without Recommended Reading not quite being the same! It used to be fun to read random crap from people all over the world. They said they were going to replace it, and I hope they do, but it sure is taking long enough. Anywho, thanks for the friends request -- never hurts to have more peers on the web, IMO.

Hey - that's ok - thanks for explaining the 'friending'. I've accepted - because you explained yourself! LOL! There are people who just apply for 'friendships' and I have NO idea who or why they do. I mean I don't know you... but hey! :) Where abouts in Australia are you!?!

    Maggio 2009
  • irishtim

The new Wolf & Cub is ok. It's not as good as Vessels but it's worth a listen. I'll trade you for the new Kylesa. I've actually been hearing from quite a few people that it's pretty good. Kylesa has been playing alot of shows recently with Mastodon, Baroness, Torche, and Intronaut lately, all being bands I totally love so I'll give 'em another chance.

  • lindagetchel

I recommend you http://www.last.fm/music/The+Crayon+Fields - a really sweet australian band you might already know, but I don't see them on your charts so worth a shout! :)

    Aprile 2009
  • irishtim

I've seen that Kylesa album in blogs all over the place. I've been hesitant to get it cause I really didn't like their previous albums but I'd give it a listen. There has not really been a whole lot of '09 albums lately that have been that great with the exception of the Silversun and Mastodon albums. Long Distance Calling, If These Trees Could Talk and And So I Watch You From Afar all have released decent instrumental albums this year. No where near the caliber of that Scale The Summit album though. Holy Crap those kids are good.

btw have I told you about Lite? Instrumental 4 piece band out of Japan. Not nearly as heavy as Scale The Summit or Russian Circles but insane musicians. Their '08 album Phantasia is really good and made my top ten last year.

You're right, these Scale The Summit kids are friggin' amazing.

Hey, I don't know if you've seen this or not but It'd be worth checking out. http://www.last.fm/event/960187. I know you're a Cog fan and I think I've recommended Oceansize to you before. If not I think you'd like 'em.

Hey Buddy, how've you been? I've been retarded busy myself but I did get your comment. The Torche album was one that had to grow on me as well. There's still a couple songs I'm not super into but overall it's great. I've been listening to the new The Sound of Animals Fighting like crazy. I can't get enough of it. I didn't even think I'd like it cause their last album was a waste of studio recording time. It was pure awful. But they've sure redeemed themselves on The Ocean & The Sun. Check it out if you haven't already. Cheers :)

oh and yeah - there were some presale tickets available last week... but I was too late to get any tickets for the floor... can't be bothered going in the stands at SEC! blah Got 4 tickets today for the Thursday gig - but wanted 6! oh well.

I know you've been known to dabble in some RATM, have you heard One Day as a Lion featuring Zach & Jon Theodore (formerly of the Mars Volta) on drums?

    Ottobre 2008

This Town Needs Guns aren't exactly like MTB but their song mapping is (to me atleast). The guitar & drum work is awesome though. Speaking of awesome, have you heard the MTB acoustics ep yet?

  • irishtim

Dude Zodiak is so RAD! Song 5 gave me a Cog-like vibe. I can see why you like 'em. I just got my hand on Animals by This Town Needs Guns. I've been hearing about it so i decided to get it. Minus the Bear song structures with super intricate guitar and drum work. Could use better vocals but a great album none the less. Check 'em out... :)

    Ottobre 2008
  • irishtim

I actually downloaded the Zodiak album but the files were corrupted so I didn't get to hear it. I haven't heard of Thisquietamy though. I've been meaning to ask you if you've heard Sleepmakeswaves. They're from Sydney. They're instrumental post-rock in the vein of Explosions in the Sky. Not too sure how into that genre you are but I figured you'd like to check out a fellow Aussie band.

ps. awesome to see some zombie action haha, hells yes! Have you been to the Horror Film Festival in Sydney before? I went last year on Zombie night - was awesome :)

Hey mate, thanks! Looks like you have some tasty musical choices under your belt too. Sounds like you have a pretty varied musical taste like me... I highly recommend Sigur Ros for you sir, I've just gotten into them in the last 6 months - really great. I think you'll enjoy em. Probably start with ágætis byrjun. It's pretty much full of win. Red Sparrowes are another favourite of mine more recently. And hell yeah don't worry about those stats!

This year has been pretty slow for heavy music for me as well. A Textbook Tragedy-Intimidator is awesome. They're friggin' super heavy with growling vocals that get kinda annoying after awhile but musically they're incredible. One of the best drummers I've ever heard. Other than that, Johnny Truant-No Tears For The Creatures & Torche-Meanderthal are pretty good, but there's alot of stuff coming out later this year I'm waiting for. Deftones,Norma Jean,These Arms Are Snakes,& Mastodon all have albums coming out later this year. I'll send you Intimidator. It's a must hear. Cheers!

That'd be great if you'd send those to me. I'd really appreciate it. Have I asked you about Russian Circles yet? They're a really great instrumental band. They've got a couple of free tracks on their last.fm page from their older album which is pretty good but I can't stop listening to their new one. Let me know if your interested. Or anything else you might want. Thanks.

Thanks for the Black Mountain recommendation. I listened to a couple of songs from In The Future on their last.fm page and it's definitely an album I'm goona get. How have I not heard these guys before. They're even from the pacific northwest (my neck of the woods). How is the new Cog btw?
