    Manicured Noise-Remixed-The Pocketnoise EP
    (CTRUE 12)
    Release Date: 30/11/09
    Format: Digital EP

1 Metronome (Cousin Cole Remix 2-5)
2 Faith (Pocketknife’s Sax in the City Remix)
3 Faith (Jon Da Silva’s Remix)
4 Moscow 1980 (Wedderkopp + Taylor’s Lost In Georgia Mix)
5 Faith (Jon Da Silva’s Everyday Edit)

Radical and very danceable reworks of key tracks from the Manicured Noise album Northern Stories 1978/80, from the legendary Jon Da Silva (The Hacienda) Pocketknife + Cousin Cole (Brooklyn NYC DJ Party Supremos) and new North Wales/Midlands production axis Wedderkopp and Taylor. Remixed from the original mastertapes.

This is where an original blueprint for Punk-Funk gets taken for a magic carpet ride from Manchester’s seminal 80’s club the Hacienda , to the 21C dancefloor of NYC where Cole and Pocketknife regularly rock the lofts of Brooklyn and beyond.

Northern Stories is that rare disc that lives up to the moniker “gem from the vaults.” (Tokyo Times) 2007

Metronome gets an irresistible and compulsive dancefloor workout from Cousin Cole; whilst his partner in crime lauded NYC producer and DJ Pocketknife shapes the Northern Soul flavoured Faith into a new party friendly form with his Sax In The City Remix.

Both Pocketknife and Cousin Cole have creatively remixed and re-edited a wide range of artists from folkster Joanna Newsom, through to Feist, Kanye West, Alphabeat and Paul Simon. The recent Canyon Dancing 12” drew much applause.

Jon Da Silva knew Manicured Noise back in the day, and brings a fans discerning ear to his rework of Faith. Complete with added keyboards, this is a Housey-Balearic raver of the first order.
Meanwhile, Wedderkopp and Taylor take the instrumental Moscow 1980 and imbue the track with plenty of Cold War paranoia and strange twists. .

Northern Stories is that rare disc that lives up to the moniker “gem from the vaults.” (Tokyo Times) 2007

In 2007 Fred Deakin, acclaimed electronic musician (Lemon Jelly), designer and DJ, selected Moscow 1980 from the Northern Stories 1978/80 album for his Triptyche mix set. A mutual appreciation between CTR and Fred for the Post-punk era was apparent. Very shortly afterwards came the lucky and unexpected unearthing of the long lost master tapes for the first Manicured Noise single, originally released in’80. “Moscow” was a double A side with Metronome.

Fred has reworked the track into a Nu-Balearic storm, infused with the spirit of the Thrashing Doves. The track recently gained much attention after BBCR1 play on a Rob-Da-Bank Nu-Balearic special.

Curiously prescient now, it was written as a stab at a theme for the Moscow Olympics of that year, the track hinting optimistically at a brighter future that seemed unlikely in those paranoid and recessed times.
On the B side is Fred’s fluid interpretation of an early Human league cut, plucked from obscurity and crafted for the tail end of another turbulent decade.
    .
The release comes in a special sleeve featuring original artwork by Fred. Very Limited

    Release Date: Monday September 1st

Northern Stories is that rare disc that lives up to the moniker “gem from the vaults.” (Tokyo Times) 2007

Following the success and great critical acclaim the Manicured Noise “Northern Stories 1978/80” compilation has attracted. Caroline True Records are delighted to issue a key moment from the album, Faith, as a very limited 7” release (500 copies) and download.

“Faith" was acclaimed on its original PRE Records release in 1980, its tough Northern backbeat acknowledging an indebtedness to the days of the Twisted Wheel and the Wigan Casino.

Lauded NYC producer and DJ Pocketknife whittles the track into a totally floor friendly form with his Straight Line Edit, while the original version is on the flip side.

Pocketknife has creatively remixed and re-edited a wide range of artists from folkster Joanna Newsom, through to Feist and Paul Simon. The recent Tambourine Dream 12” drew much applause.

Causing a transatlantic stir, P’knife is a real musical man of the moment.

The 7” release trails a remix EP set to appear later in the year which will feature radical and groovy reworks of Manicured Noise tracks from Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly), Jon Da Silva (The Hacienda) Cousin Cole (Pocketknife s DJ NYC associate) Jon Kennedy (Grand Central) and Steven Walsh (Manicured Noise).
