4. What was the last show you attended? Let's make the Van Canto triple complete - haha. So yeah, the last show I attended was Blind Guardian, Van Canto and Steelwing at JAKO Arena in Bamberg last night (Oct 08, 2010).
5. What was the greatest show you've ever been to? There have been a lot, mostly from the bands that I promote.
6. What's the worst show you've ever been to? I try to avoid going to bad shows! Haha. But yeah, I've already seen some bands that I dislike at festivals, e.g. Nifelheim.
7. What's the most musically involved you have ever been? I've been working as a freelance artist promoter and music journalist for several years now, and since September 2010 I'm also a student of music business at a special faculty in Germany. I guess that explains how important music is to me! Hahaha! But I've never been an active musician myself.
8. What show are you looking forward to? All upcoming Van Canto and In Legend shows. Future Julien-K shows in Germany. And I'm looking forward to attending some festivals next year!
10. What is your favorite band shirt? I love them all.
11. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day? Ryan Shuck, Chester Bennington, Mike Patton, Maynard James Keenan, Dave Navarro, Phil Anselmo, Mikael Akerfeldt, Peter Tägtgren, Mike Portnoy, Steven Wilson, Corey Taylor, Jonathan Davis, Slash, Scott Weiland, Nikki Sixx. And probably even more!
12. Who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback? Pantera (but it would of course not be the same without Dimebag... R.I.P.!!).
13. Who is one band/artist you've never seen live but always wanted to? Julien-K.
18. What is your favorite movie soundtrack? The Queen of the Damned, The Lord of the Rings.
19. What was your last musical "phase" before you wisened up? I've been to so many. And I mostly still listen to them today (except for this cheesy pop and eurodance but that's pretty self-explanatory, I guess - haha!),.
20. What's your "guilty pleasure" that you hate to admit to liking? Some techno, boygroups, and all that 90ies stuff.

Title:Pandemonium EP Artist:In Legend (Berlin/Mainz, GERMANY) Genre: Hand-hammered Piano Craft | metal | piano Release Date: 26th March 2010 Label: Self-Released
Sometimes they occur… these strange moments that render you completely speechless while you are desperately trying to put the just witnessed listening experiences into appropriate words… and of course fail doing so. I’m struggling with this particular situation as we speak, after having listened to the band In Legend’s debut EP Pandemonium for what feels like the 100th time, and after trying to find an introduction that does this work justice for what feels like the 200th time. So, let us therefore try to simply look at things as they are: In fact, In Legend sound different than everything you have heard before - and, nevertheless, after the first listen one can already feel some sort of intimateness and well-being that one rarely gets to discover in music nowadays. Yes, I’m using big words from the very start… and yet they hit nail on the head. But maybe it would be better to first of all introduce the project in general before this turns into a completely obscure wave of enthusiasm that might cause all readers to rather shake their heads than to look any further.
In Legend is the piano metal (and yes, this denotation, albeit it might not fit 100 %, might possibly be the most appropriate one that I can think of at first) side project of Bastian Emig, also known as the drummer of the world’s first and famous a-cappella heavy metal band Van Canto. Thus, one could rightfully assume that the membership in this band might have already laid the foundation for an inclination towards extraordinary sounds because Van Canto have in fact made themselves a name as being a truly exotic phenomenon within the metal scene, particularly due to their unconventional approach to heavy metal, wherewith they have nevertheless been able to attain considerable success and fan following until now. I am almost sure that the same development will eventually happen to In Legend because this project also manages to challenge prevalent conventions in heavy metal music in a very original way.
For example, just like Van Canto, In Legend is also lacking the most important instrument of heavy metal music - the guitar. Only a bass (played by Daniel Wicke) and the drums (played by Dennis Otto) deliver the necessary rhythm and groove in order to worthily prop up the main instrument piano. Nevertheless, the piano oftentimes builds up an incredible heaviness and energy that can definitely compete with the usual metal bands in terms of intensity and dynamics. Bastian himself describes In Legend as sounding a bit like “Tori Amos on cocaine” and this depiction can somehow really be applied to the whole thing.
The first song Pandemonium already serves as a proper introduction to the sound of In Legend and presents the listener after a short spoken-word passage with a heavily hammering intro on the bass keys of the piano which is accompanied by dynamic double bass attacks of the drums. Never before had I heard a piano in such a heavy way - but one must admit that it perfectly matches the dusky mood of the song. What also immediately sticks out in this song is the versatile voice of Bastian Emig. While I can imagine that it might take some time for certain people to get used to it, as a matter of fact his voice already captivates the listener in this first song and does not let him go again. On this 4-track EP one can seriously discover everything from soft, clean vocal passages to powerful, partly even screamed parts or even spoken-word-like, rhythmic vocal work. And also the arrangements themselves are characterized by these changes in dynamics.
The EP contains everything from energetic piano hammering (not for nothing is the sound of In Legend also described as being hand-hammered piano craft) to fast, lively passages and also calm, atmospheric and even romantic moments (for example in the intro of Prestinate and generally in the song The Healer), and one already finds out about that in the first song. There is never a dull moment in the whole course of this work - on the contrary: The whole CD is so full of brilliant new ideas, diversity, and technical finesses that it almost exceeds the listener’s imagination. And if that was not enough, Bastian Emig also has a keen sense of wonderful melodies (which can be discovered in the terrific closing song Heya, for example) which immediately get stuck in the ear canals and make no move to leave in the near future. In particular one also needs to put a special emphasis on the “song in the song” with the title Remedy - an absolutely stunning piano instrumental that seamlessly follows up the third song The Healer and simply offers a wonderfully calm and melancholic break to the rest of the album. One can virtually think of it as the moment of relief before the (contrary to the rest of the album) rather optimistic and “lighter” piece Heya picks up the pace for one last time.
Conclusion: As mentioned above, this debut EP just blew me away. I had already been exposed and gotten used to a lot of different stuff in the heavy metal genre before but In Legend manage the impossible and enthuse me with only four songs like no other band did in a long while. Rarely has any debut offered as much inventiveness, passion, and fresh air as can be seen here, and with the high musical quality and the very high artistic value of this output one can only wonder what kind of great things In Legend are gonna provide us with in the future when the first full length album arrives (which is already said to come out in fall/winter 2010). “The perfect blend of hard, soft and uncompromising passion” - that is how the biography of the band puts it - and from my side there is hardly any better description for this more than ambitious project.

On February 26 (--please note the varying release dates below--), the guys (and gal) from VAN CANTO are gonna return with their completely unique a-cappella heavy metal sound by revealing their new, third album Tribe Of Force which can in fact be considered their most ambitious one to date.
The album will contain 13 songs, including 2 cover songs: “Rebellion” by GRAVE DIGGER (where Chris Boltendahl himself lends his vocals in the verses) and METALLICA’s 8-minute masterpiece “Master Of Puppets.”
As always, the band imitates guitars and bass purely by use of their vocal chords… with one exception: The song “One To Ten” features RAGE guitarist Victor Smolski on a real guitar dueling himself with the guitar-imitating vocal chords of VAN CANTO’s own Stefan Schmidt. Apart from Chris Boltendahl and Victor Smolski, the album also includes another exciting guest appearance by SONATA ARCTICA’s vocalist Tony Kakko on the song “Hearted.”
Besides these guest appearances, another highlight is in fact the song “Magic Taborea” which was recorded with a full-fledged symphony orchestra and which serves as the title track for another episode of the MMORPG Runes Of Magic. Finally, with the song "Last Night Of The Kings" the album also does not miss out on a great ballad with a slight medieval flair!
Here’s the tracklist of the album:
To Sing A Metal Song
One To Ten (feat. Victor Smolski)
I Am Human
Rebellion (Grave Digger Cover - feat. Chris Boltendahl)
Last Night Of The Kings
Tribe Of Force
Water. Fire. Heaven. Earth.
Master Of Puppets (Metallica Cover)
Hearted (feat. Tony Kakko)
To get a first taste of the album, feel free to watch the brand new video for the song ”Lost Forever”HERE!
And finally, in THIS new widget you can listen to 5 more song snippets from the highly anticipated new album!
So what do you think? Are you looking forward to the new album? Or maybe you had never heard of this band before and are now staring on your screen in disbelief? I would surely love to hear your feedback since I love this band to death and since these folks never cease to amaze me at any point in my life.
By the way, if you want to catch the band live, you should check out the new tour dates on VAN CANTO’s official MySpace (for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) or mark their performances on the renown festivals Rock Harz Open Air and Metalfest (in Dessau, Germany, and Malming, Austria) in your calendars. For the latter half of the year 2010, some shows in other European countries and maybe even some overseas performances are being planned right now.
So long and Rakka-Takka! >> Lisa

If you are from a German-speaking country and want to extensively promote the new release and win some goodies while doing so, please read this important blog from JULIEN-K GERMANY: CLICK.
On another note: We from JULIEN-K GERMANY will also be launching the official German Julien-K site http://www.julien-k.de very soon and are gonna prepare some cool stuff for the upcoming Dead By Sunrise Germany Tour in late February!
If you know me at least for a bit, you will know how much I love Julien-K. It is pretty much my favorite band right now, and since a lot of exciting things are coming up or have already come up in the Julien-K world, I decided to give you a more detailed lowdown on them.
First things first: Julien-K are a very unique, revolutionary, and refreshing electronic rock or synthie rock band which was formed by the two Orgy guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh. Ryan has taken over the vocal duties in Julien-K while Amir is responsible for a lot of beats stuff and also the trippy guitar licks. Rounding up the band are Brandon Belsky (keyboard, background vocals) and Elias Andra (drums). There's also a kind of "invisible fifth member" called Anthony "Fu" Valcic who really lends his help when it comes to sampling, production, remixing, etc.--basically all that tech stuff :D Apart from the band itself which also works as a live band, Julien-K also includes a DJ project (called JKDJS and a remix project (Julien-K Remix). They have also formed a new band called Dead By Sunrise with Linkin Park's own Chester Bennington on vocals that is set to come out in September 2009. You will find links to all these projects at the end of this text.
So now that we got these things straight, here is some insight into certain major updates that concern the band:
Julien-K's debut album Death To Analog will FINALLY be released on March 10th, 2009 through Metropolis Records!! :) It can be preordered in 2 versions--a special limited edition that contains a bonus remix CD called Death To Digital and the normal edition. Here you can preorder the various versions (also a vinyl version)! By the way, with every preorder through Metropolis you'll get a signed picture of the band and special codes wherewith you can access bonus content so it's really worth preordering! All German fans out there can also preorder both versions of the CD at Amazon.de!!
In order to stay up-to-date regarding anything Julien-K, I recommend checking the band's MySpace profile regularly, and especially the blog updates. Please also make sure to join the band's street team if you want to further support the guys. And this goes out particularly to German people: I've created a German Julien-K fan community called JULIEN-K GERMANY which can be accessed here. Would be cool if you added me there! :)
So far, so good. I hope I could give you some much needed information on the band and you are all as stoked for the album as I am (or at least I was able to make you curious to find out more about the guys)! As for myself, I'm totally counting down the days until March 10th now ;)
Okay then, that's it for now. If you want to talk about anything Julien-K or other stuff (I'm really open for everything, especially if it revolves around music), then you can always hit me up on here or find me at the links on my profile. Would be cool to hear from all you peeps! You can also leave some feedback or comments on here - I'd be very happy about that!!
