Top 20 Albums of 2007

A good time to start journalising, as the year ends and lists enter my head far more than usual (which is a lot).

Time then, to peruse me album collection and determine which impressed me the most during the year that was 2007.

A gentle entrant at 20 with Jack Savoretti's Between The Minds. Solid singer-songwriteryness that stands above most of the crowd for most of the album but would have got a higher placing if things had lived up to the heights of, for instance, Chemical Courage.

19 is filled by Murder By Death and their In Bocca Al Lupo album. A heady mix of rock, and folk murder ballads, the highlight of which is undoubtedly Boy Decide.

At 18 is the wonderfully entrancing The Besnard Lakes Are The Dark Horse by, and not surprisingly, The Besnard Lakes. Lay down with your headphones on for this one. No standouts on this one, take it as a complete album and enjoy.

A late entry to the chart (forcing out The Autumns and grabbing the number 17 spot is Gomez vocalist Ian Ball with his debut solo album Who Goes There. Fans of Gomez should love it, as should everyone else.

Possibly a 2006 release (but listened to exclusively in 2007 by me, so it counts ok?) and claiming number 16 is Cold War Kids' Robbers And Cowards. Principally because they gave one of the best live performances of the year at Manchester Academy despite the patchiness of this album (when it's good it's brilliant, but some of it is really not worthy).

Tune in for the next 5 sometime soon!
