Philips Electronics fucked me over.

I've been scammed by Philips Electronics.

I acquired a Mp3 player last Christmas, a 6GB one (model number: HDD1620/00).

I used to be able to play ALL my music on it.
The firmware (v1.3) had some bugs but hey, it worked.

Now recently they brought a new patch (v2.1) which fixed some things and also caused a new error.
I can't listen to a lot of my previous albums.

So I contacted Philips Electronics.
Told 'em I'm having problems with the Mp3 player and that I wish to reverse my firmware to the 1.3 version.

Philips tells me that's not possible and that I can't reverse the process.
So now I sit with a Mp3 player that's broken down because of them and now can't reverse it?

Fucking bollocks.
I've sent them a pissed off response.
I so fucking hope they'll do something about it.

I'll keep you folks updated.

Update 1:
I phoned their 'customer care' service and I got told that they don't have the v1.3 around anymore and that I'll have to wait for a new patch.
Great. I had to wait 6 months for this crappy patch, and now I have to sit with it for 6 more months, and then hope it's fixed.

Fucking corperate fucks.
I know that not all music I have ain't particulary legal but damnit, it worked before so why can't it now.
I want to fucking downgrade that damn firmware to what it was.
They can't pull this off, they've fucked me over!

that sounds like bullshit. they installed that original firmware somehow and should be able to overwrite whatever is already in place. i'd try contacting them again, maybe you'll get a support person that isn't being lazy that time.

Well though I think that it is bullshit, I can't acquire any earlier firmware as it ain't available for me. The dude I phoned asked a techie if they had it around somewhere but apperantly it ain't. I'm pissed off. I know it's illegal music, but dammit, it worked and now it doesn't!

Could you describe in more detail why you can't listen to some of your previous albums any more? I mean, if they are MP3, they should play. No player is able to differentiate between illegal mp3s and legal mp3s.
No player is able to differentiate between illegal mp3s and legal mp3s.
Illegal mp3s should always be playable, legal songs are often encumbered by Digital Restrictions Management and can therefore not always be played.

That's wierd... I really don't like phillips anymore. Sure, they make okay TV's... but musically they do indeed suck:P I got a pair of £15 headphones that fell to pieces in a month or so... I wasn't impressed :P Could you not like format the thing and make it revert to factory settings then put everything back onto it? I've got this beauty... It has an option on its menu that lets ya reset it to factory settings, including the software. It's 40gb so I guess there's room to backup the operating system :P

@Hengstenbert: Some albums, like for instance Hau Ruck don't work anymore, I guess some, like these, are in fact legal mp3's, that would explain. @Embryoos: Perhaps you're right, I guess some of the albums I dled were purchased by someone via stuff like I-Tunes, that would explain why they can't play anymore. @Mr.Goodmorning: Dunno, too bad.

Yeah, if you downloaded something that was purchased using i-tunes that should definentely not play on your player, because it's encrypted using Apple's FairPlay DRM - which only iPods can play.

Oddly enough I could play them before...

Well, shouldn't be that then. Good luck to you with that player. :/
