An abitrary notation of an anniversary that happened 12 days ago.

By which I mean, two years since I started up this last.fm account.

So basically I'm just going to go through a series of artists I discovered either directly or indirectly through last.fm, and prattle on about how great they are.

Solstice:
Doom Metal band from the UK. I obtained two albums - Halcyon, and New Dark Age. Both are brilliant. The title track from the latter album appears to be based in Lovecraftian lore, which just awards it bonus points. Highly recommended for anyone with a taste for epic Doom.

Candlemass:
Yeah, I know, heretical for me to say it, but I'm really not a great fan of their work with Messiah. This may admittedly be due to me viewing Marcolin himself as an utter douchebag. That said, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, Nightfall, From The 13th Sun, and everything from King Of The Grey Islands onward are all bloody fantastic albums. Lowe absolutely kicks ass in his place as the new 'Mass vocalist, as he does in every band he features in.

Impaled Nazarene:
"One Dead Nation Under Dead God" pretty much sums up why I fucking love this band now.

Edguy:
The first power metal band I really got into. I still find Vain Glory Opera to be an amazing album.

Avantasia:
Concept albums featuring one of power metal's greatest singers? Yes please!

Holy Terror:
SUCH an underrated Thrash act. Terror and Submission is a damned fine album.

Blind Guardian:
Nightfall in Middle-Earth is kickass. I never tire of it.

Iced Earth:
Thus far I have only heard one album: Framing Armageddon. And it is mindblowing. I can't believe it took me so damn long to get into these guys!

Solitude Aeturnus:
Yeah, you knew this was coming. Quite simply the greatest band ever to exist, bar none. They've never released a bad album and never will. All hail Robert Lowe!
