Young the Giant are terrible. Why did someone recommend them to you.

Check out the concert I went to while I was in Cincinatti. Had a lot of pretty good bands. Really like Snowmine, and I'm still working on listening to alot of them.

I started watching Steins Gate. Weird shit, but really good. Army kind of holds me back though.

Contra for me, but I'm very much in the minority.

I may not be the perfect person to ask, as they're one of those bands who clicked with me right off the hop. I've heard enough complaints that they're too clean/polished/effete/edgeless/hipster etc. but I doubt that's the issue given your taste (not an insult, if it sounded like one). I guess I would say that their appeal is something like Paul Simon's; highly literate, sensitive pop with a distinctive melodic sensibility. I just think they're master craftsmen who've managed the rare trick of actually synthesizing their disparate influences into a sound that feels distinctive, unified and contemporary; a lot of bands have impeccable taste but their music feels referential. Oh, and it's totally pop for the overeducated. There's something fun about a band who seem to be soundtracking your painfully romantic drifting through your twenties.

Vampire Weekend is almost transcendental for me. It's definitely just pop, but they really know what they're doing. All of their melodies are just... insane! Especially songs like "Oxford Comma", "Hannah Hunt", and "Giving Up the Gun" just click with me. The lyrics can be funny ("I Stand Corrected") or profound ("Ya Hey"), and they do both really well. If they haven't clicked yet, I think "Giving Up the Gun" might be the song to do it (?)

Woah hey man, long time no speak. Hm, for me I'm in college studying electricity now, so that's going well. Life's been ok over all, usual ups and downs y'know. As far as music goes I'm just trying to get back into consistently discovering new stuff and really getting into it, not just listening to an album once or twice or going back to the same old stuff I like. I've been listening to more hip hop the last while but I'm trying to hop back onto folky stuff and whatever else. What about you man?

lol I don't even care what they think!! I won't listen to Lady Gaga or Rihanna or whatever, stuff like that. But stuff like Neil Young or Bruce would have been 'dad rock' or even too mainstream and I would have avoided it. But those artists are popular because they are good, really good. I pretty much listen to whatever now. that's not bad! optimism is important. I graduated university last year and tried moving to NYC, I had interviews and everything but I gave up that towards the end of the summer because it's so expensive. I wanted to then move to Chicago where a friend of mine lives but then I recently gave that up to because I don't want to move to far away from where I am now. It would have been such a drastic change too. But I'm content where I am now I guess. Oooh, I like the new Sun Kil Moon album a lot. I only got into him in the beginning of February, but I don't think that it's his best album I'd say that would honor would go to his first album or April

Wow I see you wiped your library! I'm doing great right now. Keeping busy with school, digging through some new tracks and pursuing some new interests meanwhile. Not bad at all, although I might be living on ramen. How are you buddy?

oh man, that place! I haven't been there since 2011 maybe? and I think that was only to ask for a recommendation or something. I'm doing pretty well, I still manage to listen to a ton and I guess my music tastes have changed as to where I'll listen to something no matter what it is. I used to kind of care what it was and if it was 'unfashionable' I'd avoid it, it's way better when you don't care. You always seem to reset your profile all the time too, how come? Also have you been listening to anything good recently? How have you been?

Also what i really liked about her first two records(especially in Marry Me) that lyrics have this dark humor which i dig a lot.I also think Actor is her best album and she was successful for remaining cohesive and interesting while trying new things out.
