your feelings seem to be pretty much what i'm hearing from several of my friends.... i was very excited about the free track but then you realize A Brain in a Box is truly the highlight track after you hear the entire album.... still, it's better than no Thom album at all ^_^

Kishi Bashi is an artist who bears strong influences in both the modern and classic rock scene, so there's two separate groups of artists to go by. If you like the modern aspect of his music, I recommend listening to Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, and Of Montreal. For the latter group, I'd go with Electric Light Orchestra and early-70s Yes.

I'm glad you liked it! I like listening to Kishi Bashi's music on warm, sunny days and when I'm feeling a little sad. His first album is pretty much flawless to me, so I had very high expectations when he released his new album back in May. Not only did he reach those expectations, but he threw in a much stronger prog influence in the music this time around. I hear shades of ELO and Yes in a lot of the material on Lighght. I also recommend looking up videos of him performing live. He does it all with his violin, loop pedal and voice. It's amazing to watch.

It's ok! I totally understand how you feel! They're definitely an "acquired taste", and personally, I'm completely fascinated by how strange First Utterance is. I won't deny that it's nightmarish at times, but the fact that it sounds so "lost in time" is what draws me to it, like it's not something made by a bunch of musicians playing together in a recording studio. Two years ago, the band made an album that was sort of a (long overdue) follow-up called Out of the Coma. It's not as creepy as First Utterance, but it certainly has the same vibe.

No, I don't mind. Thanks for adding me! And let me know how your listening experience goes, especially with Magma and Comus. Those are two artists I don't encourage people to listen to often, since their stuff is so "out there".

Your list of bands to get into is very interesting. Out of all of those bands, Comus and Kishi Bashi are probably quickest to form an opinion on. They don't have a lot of music to go through, but from personal experience, both back catalogues can leave quite an impact. I also think you might like Magma and Hawkwind if you haven't listened to them yet.

I'm trying to do too many things at the same time. Also an aspiring polyglot (3.5)

"We're at a time when we are being presented with undeniable changes in the global climate and fundamental issues that affect every single one of us, and it's the time we're listening to the most hokey shite on the radio and watching vacuous bullshit celebrities being vacuous bullshit celebrities and desperately trying to forget about everything. Which is fine, you know, but personally speaking, I can't do that."
-Thom Yorke

Bands I'm currently in the process of getting into:

The Pineapple Thief
Regina Spektor
Yndi Halda

Bands that are on the "music to listen to" list:

Jack White
The Antlers
Hot Chip
La Dispute
The Doors
Neutral Milk Hotel
King Crimson
The Bicycle Thief
Russian Circles
Angus & Julia Stone
The Dead Weather
The Evpatoria Report
The Disintegration Loops
Grizzly Bear
Animal Collective
Andrew Bird
Sufjan Stevens
of Montreal
Philip Glass
Iron & Wine
Simon & Garfunkel
Gold Panda

if you know of any band that is not in either list/my charts and for whatever reason you think I should listen to, please leave me a shout. Thank you.

I am ok with random friends requests, but it would be nice if you said hi first!

You played the flute,
but no one was dancing...
You sang a sad song,
but none of us cried.
