There are certain things you’d want the whole world to know. Not because you’re happy, or sad, or because you think it’s important, but only to clear up misunderstandings that have came into existence through the years. I have no doubt when I say that Michael Jackson has been the favorite theme of strange rumors about celebrities in the last century. It has become very clear to me how these lies (which they definitely are) can influence the general vision of someone, but also how they can break one, with even death as the most extreme consequence.

I’ve always been one of these gullible people who did believe that Michael Jackson slept in an oxygen chamber and spent most of his time in hospital to recover from plastic surgery. When someone said his name, I thought of this ‘weirdo’, someone who liked young boys a little too much, in short; a total nut.
I have to admit he looked a little strange in the end. You can’t deny the fact that he has his nose (and other facial parts?) done several times and it’s clear that he did have a lot of money, so why would he not do the things that were written about him?
I realized that we, the audience, read something, don’t think twice, and hardly ever think; ‘why should he want to buy the elephant man bones?'. Or ‘there might be personal reasons to change his appearance’. It’s so easy to suppose everything that’s said, that you let the media have the whole control on your thoughts about specific things.

What we forget, is that there’s someone human behind these rumors, someone who does feel it when you talk bad about him, someone who’s hurt by the lies and mean jokes we made. It’s pretty harsh that this man, who was more of a genius than a nut in fact, had to die before he got the respect he really earned.

One of the most discussed things about Michael, is the color of his skin. Why would I ever doubt about the fact that he wanted to be a white man? It’s nothing illogical, not for a star who has all the money in the world, and who has to deal with the way he looks every day, more than any other person. Of course I have heard him say he had this skin-disorder, but for some reason that sounded more like lies to me than the things that were written about him. It was clear that he has had several nose jobs before, so why wouldn’t he go further?

When you call a little attention to the story, you come to realize that there’s (as far as I know) no such thing as (complete) skin bleaching, and when you look up some pictures of Michael in the 80’s, you can clearly see the white spots in his face. This disorder, called Vitiligo, which destroys the pigment in your skin, affects about 1% (!) of the world population. It’s said that Michael’s make up-artist had to cover up the white spots with full body make up at first, but when it all got worse, it was more obvious to lighten up the darker places of his skin than otherwise. Another issue that refers to the truth of this story, is that people who suffer from Vitiligo have a notable bigger change of getting skin cancer, which Michael was diagnosed with last year.

It’s so easy to believe things about someone you don’t know a thing about. When you go into Michael’s life just a little, you’ll find out that right he is a very vulnerable person, dealing with a lot of insecurity. A man who’s easily ashamed, and never had the chance to be a kid. Someone who’s forced to sell his childhood for fame. And above all, a man who loved children, loved them in a way every parent should love their own kids. You have to see him playing games with all these disabled children only once, to find out he’s always been trying to be the kid he never got to be.
If there was one thing in the world you could destroy this man with, it was with a charge of child abuse. I don’t feel like writing a long elucidation about my belief in his innocence, but I am 100% sure that Michael Jackson was simply not even ABLE to hurt a child, it was not in him, the last thing he would EVER do in his life. The one who came up with this story is so incredibly evil, so keen on breaking this man, that it could encourage real feelings of hate for me.

This charge has tainted his name so badly that, even after he was found innocent, Michael had become a joke, an idiot, a pedophile in the eyes of the world. And I can’t say this with certainty, but I do truly believe that this whole happening has made him grab at several very dangerous drugs which have finally caused the death of this icon. Because that’s how he should, and hopefully will, be remembered. Michael Jackson has been one of the most amazing singers, entertainers and dancers of all time, so it’s not overdone to say he was a genius. That’s something I want the world to know and to see, to clear up the things that were said about him, and to let him rest in peace. The peace he wasn’t able to find in his troubled and unfair life.

"Yeah, Wacko Jacko, where did that come from? Some English tabloid. I have a heart and I have feelings. I feel that when you do that to me. It's not nice." - Michael Jackson

I’ve been thinking a while before writing this. It may be a little too obvious to write a blog about Michael Jackson right now, but on the other hand, I’ve got to know so much about him in the past few days that I have to admit that he’s been my main inspiration to write this.

I’ve never been a fan of Michael Jackson, neither have I ever really liked his music or read the story about his life. Of course I have seen his face passing on the news channels, I know the rumours, I know the tasteless jokes people made about him. For me, Michael had become more of a Southpark-character than a human being. But he was an icon, there wasn’t anyone who didn’t know his name and I think every single person did like at least one of his songs. He was just there, he had always been there, and it was hard to imagine that one day he would be gone.
That this was not a realistic thought, has become very clear right now. The ‘king of pop’ is dead. I shiver at the thought of his lifeless body, somewhere in a refrigeration right now. But that’s pretty aimless to think or talk about.

Michael has left so many songs, impressions and influences, that it might be hard to ever forget about him. People have two different pictures of him, but I do truely think and hope that the artist will be remembered, and not the inhuman ‘robot’ he has become during his carreer.

All the tv has been showing these days are reports about Michael’s life, shocking interviews, things that always have been hidden from the public. And I have to say it really touched me. I came to realize, that this man was the classical example of a star, destroyed by fame.
The price of fame is something I’ve always been writing about. Something that really interests and frightens me. How many stars have been ruined by their job, by the fans, media, exhaustion or just the crazyness of the lives they were living? Remember all the biggest stars of this century, how many of them have died at an acceptable age? Marilyn Monroe died young, so did Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, and how many more? Is it their unfortunate faith, or just the destiny of a superstar?

There are many stars that are still going under by what they have to manage every single day of their lives. I’ve seen things about Britney Spears that shocked me. I’ve seen how she can’t go outside anytime, anywhere, I’ve seen how she has to hire stand-in’s to deduce the paparazzi when she wants to go shopping, I’ve seen how overwhelming and enervating it is to have fans everywhere, who all want a picture, an autograph, just a single look. But it’s impossible to please everyone. And it must be so hard to stay nice when people are standing in front of every single hotel you sleep in, when fans are chasing you all the time, just to have no single moment on your own anymore. In that documentary she said that the only place where she could feel free, was a locked room without windows. That she had become a prisoner. And that touched me.
I’ve seen so many people changing when they became more famous, and in some way they all get the same strange look in their eyes. The same plastic smile, the same plain faces telling lies. I’m always wondering if these people consciously do the things they do, or that they have been changed into some kind of robots that just do what the world wants them to do. So many stars are just weak extracts of the humans they used to be once. Like spineless bodies, dancing, singing, talking, but not thinking or feeling.

I’m always worrying about these people, people I don’t know at all, but sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who thinks about them as real people, people who (I assume so) have their own minds and feelings in the end, people who might not be able to take anything they do for a long time, and who suffer a lot from it. We want them to sing and to perform every day, but forget about them. Isn’t that a little funny?

Everybody knows how Michael Jackson has sacrifised his childhood for fame, so did Britney, Christina Aguilera, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and many other stars. Is there any of them who didn’t have a serious breakdown already? Anyone who’s really healthy and happy? And there are also people like Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan. Stars who believe that drugs or alcohol are a solution for their problems. It’s just so sad to see this happening all the time, year after year, ever since the phenomenon ‘superstar’ has arisen.

It’s not that I’d really like to help this people personally, it’s just that people, who call themselves fans, let and even make this happen. It hurts me to see someone, idols, break in front of my eyes. Am I the only one?
