Ahhh... I'm gonna have to show my ignorance here and admit I've never really heard Big Flame (I did actually have the C86 cassette a while ago, but it sounded like it was going to fall to pieces at any second so I never played it much- I also had the pogo a go go tape, which did work and was a really good tape)... so I guess I have a couple of new things to check out next chance I get. Cheers :)

Hoiw was The Primitives gig? Were you overawed by Tracey Tracey? Does she look good?

Yes it's an afternoon performance as the bands will be playing elsewhere in the evening. The promoter is doing two afternoon gigs for the Bank Holiday May Mondays. It's cheaper for booking the bands. The pub gets busy on the Bank Holidays especially if it's sunny due to it's great location by the river.

The Nightingales play Preston (with....wait for it....TED CHIPPINGTON) on May 28th. It's at The New Continental down by the river Ribble at Avenham Park.

Yes I have tickets. The website for 53 Degrees confirms Nov 12th as the new date. It's a shame as it might take away sales from the Edwyn Collins show on the same night. You need to listen to The Weddoes four more times to overtake Sarandon!

TVPs were absolutely storming. They played on the small stage but a good crowd turned up to see them. I reckon they should have played the main stage instead of Pastels who were a bit underwhelming according to most folk. Pains are mega big these days cos the kids have discovered real indiepop. Now's the time to cash in on Ebay! I think it's because Pains are big on the blogs and have been on a lot of big American chat shows. those shows in turn have generated buzz on Youtube here.

Hi! You would have enjoyed ATP's Nightmare Before Xmas this weekend. I saw Television Personalities and Pains of Being Pure at Heart (the best there). Also playing were Bob Mould, a specially reformed Membranes, Swervderiver, MBV (3 times!), and Th' Faith Healers (very good) and That Petrol Emotion (never realised how good they were live).

Are you feeling disillusioned with life, bored with music, jaded with Nigel's wit? You have no excuses! I am thinking of heading down to London for the Carter shows in November. I used to slate my pal for going to their reunion gigs but now have a strange urge to revisit my youth!

Did you enjoy HMHB last week? I did not make it down to the mosh pit as I was late arriving.

I saw TVPs at the Truck Festival. It must be the first gig they've turned up to in years! Have you managed to find a more interesting job since leaving EDS? I am contracting at BAE Systems. I feel part of the killing machine now.

How did the support slots go? I would have come to Blackpool but I had a prized ticket to see Tom Waits at his only British dates in Edinburgh.

Are you going to see Robert Forster at Lancaster Library? He is playing two sets, one of which will definitely have a load of Go-Betweens songs. I'm going to it.

Here's a bery good new track from Mogwai. You have to click in the right place. It has a great electronic feel to it (a bit like M83) http://media.pias.com/mogwaidownload/

Please don't add a drum'n'bass element to your music. You saw what happened to Hefner when they introduced an electronic element- it went badly wrong! I saw them (Darren and Jack+co) playing in a park in Barcelona last Saturday.

No surprise with TVPs then. Perhaps something to do with the much publicised drug problems. I saw Glasvegas last night - I really like them but not sure how well they translate outside Scotland. Did you see the Edwyn Collins documentary last week?

I, Ludicrous are playing with The Fall and Bobbie Peru at Salford in March. I don't think they ever did anything as amusing as Preposertous Tales. They always struck me as trying too hard to be funny.
